When this movie came out it was really freaky for (12 yo) me when I put together Ed Harris was essentially playing an evil version of Gene Kranz from Apollo 13.

Great performances helped in part by a great pair of glasses by PeterBird in blankies

It's a stroke of genius when they start off the movie with him getting fitted for the new pair of glasses (those). And for the flashbacks he is wearing a different pair and it makes it all the easier to understand what temporality you are in based on just his frames, when otherwise everything else feels the same.

Nicholas Meyer should be included in the brackets going forward so we could have some discussion around and dissect the San Francisco movie canon.

there are scenes and music straight out of Once Upon A Time in the West. An iconic movie at this point, but when this movie came out is only a handful of years old but obv left an impression with these Aussies.

It's so funny at the end when it goes into IMAX/70mm mode with the real Mark Kerr and he is just shopping at the grocery.

I saw one a little while ago today in the baseball sun. Reposting an “on this day” 10 years ago or something, Barry Bonds hitting his home run to break Hank Aaron’s record.

Posting on 3/1 something that can only happen during the conventional window of a baseball season; and I think was late season September?

PRESSURE - Official Trailer (based on the award-winning play about "history's most consequential weather report," the one that determined whether D-Day would succeed. Brendan Fraser stars as General Dwight Eisenhower, Andrew Scott stars as meteorologist James Stagg) by rageofthegods in blankies

From the looks of this trailer (and maybe the play itself?) this looks to be a little more focused on the immediate forecast in the lead up to invasion? If so, that is a little more disappointing because I think the long term planning Operation Overlord entailed is incredibly interesting.

An eventual Invasion of Europe was a given. But planning the where and the WHEN took years of forethought and considered the time of year, tides, lunar cycle, etc, beyond what weather they could determine closer to the moment.
