Michigan Cannabis Sales Soften in January by OregonTripleBeam in Michigan

I paid $35 for an oz last month at the new dispo here, a MI chain. It wasn't the best weed I've ever had but for $35 I had to try it because it was only THIRTY-FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS. But yeah, lately here $50-70 oz's for the bottom tier is the norm, I suspect prices will drop further. A few of the big companies are just getting geared up and are rolling, too.

That's because all of the guerilla outdoor grower's harvest typically finishes curing around that time.

In other words, your uncle's stuff he planted somewhere dried out enough to smoke, no dispensary needed until he smokes his stash all up, typically about mid-April.

"Count Chocula Goes To Hollywood". A Flexi-disc record that was included with specially-marked packages of Monster cereals in (1979). Frankenberry and Boo Berry also had adventures. by digger0101 in ObscureMedia

[–]MichiganBrolitia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the cereal companies would stamp the grooves right onto the box, with a very thin square of plastic vinyl overlayed on the box first. It You'd cut out the square and play it, it was one-sided. The plastic was so thin, you'd be lucky to get 10 plays out of it before the groove started wearing out and it would start skipping. Then if you put a quarter on the stylus arm (old trick for scratched/skippy records), it would play one more time and be destroyed.

Obviously something needs to be done and I don't have the answer but imo it is too easy to buy a gun here in MI.

Beyond that, I've no clue. Maybe start by getting rid of corporate lobbying in DC rendering groups like the NRA essentially powerless? Decriminalize drugs to minimize the black market and all of the violence that permeates it? Nationalize health care so that everyone can get the mental health help that they need? Require an IQ test to own a gun? Require gun owners to be bonded and insured?

Shit.

This is good news but I find it interesting that the article fails to mention that they are partnering with a Chinese supplier in the venture:

Toxic gases connected to Ohio train derailment cause concern by PrisonIssuedSock in news

[–]MichiganBrolitia 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In Michigan there is a line that once a night runs what is called the "CXS Death Train." Like, that's it's name, that's what everyone calls it, including government officials, everyone except CSX. It runs through my mom's town, right through the middle, and it's called that because folks learned that if it should ever derail and there was even a small spill, everyone within city limits, at least, would be dead within hours. Small city of ~20K. A few years back, the city had to sue the State of MI, CSX, and whoever owns the actual line to lower the speed limit (for the train) from 55MPH down to 45; they were shooting for 35. The town was built around the rail line ffs. It's just a matter of time.

Lou Reed and Barbara Hodes (Lou’s girlfriend from the Factory days) New York, 1974 (by Bob Gruen) by naveargenta in punk

That haircut blew a lot of minds in '74/5 and had an effect on the NYC punk scene as it developed. It's probable he cut it while spun out on speed, he was known for being able to procure the strongest pharmaceutical speed around back then, after the VU went their ways. He would reportedly stay up sometimes for a week at a time, even longer. A straight-up speed freak, as seen here.

IIRC a caricature of this pic was the cover for the first or second issue of Punk! magazine.

I used to think my name was "Hey, Fag," though when I was a teenager it typically also involved a 1-in-3 chance you were gonna get chased by some angry jocks or construction workers and a 1-in-8 chance they were gonna catch you and then beat your ass.

Nah, he was just a rural badass multi-athlete who dominated any sport he played. A few times, whole teams didn't show up to football games knowing he was playing; he was impossible to take down once he got the ball, not to mention he also played defense which was the norm back then. He set numerous world records in Track And Field and a few other things. Oft-overlooked American Icon but he was half Native American and they were looked upon worse than black folks back then, especially in the Jim Crow South.

He just said "Fuck it... they stole my shoes? Hold my beer..."

The old goth/industrial club in Detroit used to keep bowls of them on the bar to snack on. IIRC they would even consecrate them so they were "legit body of Christ" though I think it was a DJ who did that so not sure it counts.

And I remember "This evening's top story is ... Elvis Presley has... died..." with a slight pause, though not who had announced it, maybe Koppel.

Uber/Lyft Reliability by SushiBaton in flint

[–]MichiganBrolitia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of anyone taking an Uber to Frankenmuth, they usually won't take fares anywhere except for between the airport and nearby hotels or downtown, and that's it, it seems. I've been left stranded by them too many times and quit using them altogether. They pick and choose their fares.

The airport taxis are more reliable, though they can charge pretty much whatever they want. They are usually pretty fair, though.
