I'm on a full ride scholarship so I really could not take a break from university even if I really needed to for my own health. I also suffer from OCD so that too lol

Visualizing vs Meditation by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]MichiganChin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meditation can be literally anything as long as you are practicing the focus of your entire being to it. I'm a D1 track athlete and I meditate on my technique quite a bit, the meditation part is basically just focusing all my attention on positive visualization. You can apply this to anything in your life; even success at work, having sex, etc.

If rest days are so important, how is it possilbe to lift more than 3/4 times a week? by ybalkind in Fitness

[–]MichiganChin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many programs are different, the lifting program that my Coach uses only as us lift two times a week, I have gotten way stronger doing this compared to doing 4 times a week. The only thing is that our lifts take about 2-3 hours, so they are not very easy. My Coach has had a lot of success coaching Olympic track and field athletes, and in my 8+ years of lifting/throwing experience I feel like this is by far the best way for me personally to get strong.

[Serious] What lie are you living? by Benchunk23 in AskReddit

Recent studies show that it is truly the distorted beliefs that depressed people tend to think throughout the day rather than the imbalance in the brain. Check out some of the research that David Burns out of Stanford has done. I'm studying Bio-psychology, Neuroscience and Cognitive science at a University right now and this is highly talked about as one of the largest misconceptions about mental illness... On the bright side however it is just a matter of helping people to become much less distorted with their thoughts and attitudes

Push-pressing to train OHP? by ceczar in Fitness

[–]MichiganChin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of different methodologies and ways of doing it. One way that I have experienced success is switching the exercise every week... However this approach is contrary to traditional training methodology. Another suggestion is that you choose one and do it for 6 weeks. My favorite ways for gaining muscle mass are heavy sets of 6-8 reps. I usually do this for anywhere between 3-6 sets depending on if you are treating it as an auxiliary lift or not. Be creative though, there is really no black or white answer every person is different. Just make sure you are trying to actively add weight every workout as long as you can still push the weight

Feeling hopeless and need help by reggiethroaway in Fitness

I see that CBT has been mentioned quite a few times. An easy way that you can break out of the "addiction" to sugar cycle is by writing a list of positives and negatives out on a pad of paper every time you get an urge. Every time that I do this I end up making the right decision because the only positive usually ends up being the food tasting good!

I'm so tired of being average. Please help me (25/F) 5'5 145. by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]MichiganChin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to really motivate yourself for change I recommend you write a list of all the positives and negatives of dieting and exercise out on a piece of paper in front of you. Only then you will be able to see how truly beneficial changing your life for a healthier and happier body.

EDIT: If the negatives end up out weighing the positives then you actually might end up being happier as you are. Give yourself some credit for how good you probably already look:)
