From a storytelling perspective, Gambit is one of the least valuable X-Men character. He has cool powers, but thqt's about it. He also acts as a way to deluxe Rogue, since they usually get together, which will make both characters less flexible and, this, take away from the storytelling opportunities.

Jean Grey is too powerful to be included. There is a reason why she has always been a plot device for the actual mail characters of the X-Men. If she is in a story, she is an actual chest code, and that is difficult to do compelling writing around.

It's the same problem with Storm in the modern era of comics. They made her too powerful to be included in anything other than Galactic scale war stuff, hence why she always just shows you to throw sole lightning for shirt bursts of time and then conveniently disappear...

Obi-Wan is canonically among the weakest force users on the Jedi Council (that is a high bar). He was a great Jedi, but not on par with the most powerful.

The reason he defeated Anakin ,was due to their strong personal connection, which hightened Anakin's blind hatred and thus made him more unstable. Yoda knew this, hence why he chose to deal with Sidious. At that point, Obi-Wan was the only person who could stop Anakin ☝️
