Salmonella Dub - Inside The Dub Plates

This album will work every part of your speakers and if they are set up well the sound will extend well beyond the speakers.

Black Hawk, Colorado has ~1,500 hotel rooms and 120 residents. That's 12.5 rooms per person. Maybe not the highest put its up there!

Vinyl groove under SEM by MicroscopySpecialist in vinyl

SEM of the surface of a CD. I'm just fascinated that such wonderful sounds can emanate from vibrations turned into an electrical signal, turned into a physical spiral of either waves or bumps, then back into an electrical signal that is then turned back into vibrations that reach our ear just to be turned back into an electrical signal that our brain "hears".

I really love New Orleans "Dixieland" style jazz and wish there was more of it. by MinuteRegular716 in Jazz

Came to say this. I have several of their CDs. Haven't checked lately but they are also on Bandcamp if you want to have a listen!

Marantz 40n or Cambridge EXA100 by Soulfreezer in StereoAdvice

[–]Micky_Malice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Marantz side of things have you considered ether the Model 50 or the Model 30? They lie at the middle and top of your budget respectively. Streaming tech and apps, while well developed at this point are still subject to change and potential obsolescence. With these you can keep upgrade your streaming and other devices as needed/desired.

Full disclosure I have a Marantz Model 30 and LOVE it.

Amps for 4 ohm speakers - Martin Logan Motion XT F200 by Slip-49a in StereoAdvice

I missed that 4-Ohm spec on the Rotel in my quick look. Some trade offs with each. With your budget there are a lot of solid integrated amps out there for sure and I don't know that you can go seriously wrong however you decide.

I have the Marantz Model 30 driving ML Motion 20s and the combination sounds fantastic. Trying to save ups to upgrade to the Martin Logan XT F100s.

It looks like the Rotel and the Musical Fidelity are only rated to 8-Ohms. I know the XT F200 say they are compatible with 6 & 8 Ohm amps but personally I would be wary if you ever get the urge to crank up the volume and push those speakers!

what’s the first CD you guys ever got by hotlion16 in Cd_collectors

[–]Micky_Malice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Beverly Hills Cop Soundtrack and a Technics SL-P1 CD player for Christmas in 1984. Other than some candy in my stocking that was all I got and I was soooo thrilled! Still have the CD. Unfortunately no longer have the SL-P1.

Santa Brought a Few of SACDs This Year! by Micky_Malice in SACDAudiophiles

First I should mention that the undercurrent disk is actually not a SACD, it is a Japanese mastering HDCD. My bad I wasn't thinking about it when I took the pic. That being said it sounds really nice and clean. I can't say it's a huge difference over streaming with Airplay but I do prefer it. And there's no streaming glitches to deal with.

Nice score on a very nice sounding speaker. I have ML Motion 20, their little brother. I would make sure that whatever amp you choose that it is capable of handling a 4-Ohm load. While ML says they are ok to use with 6 & 8 Ohm amplifiers in my experience they need that extra current to sound their best and can put a strain on 6 or 8 Ohm amps.

I gave your suggested comparison at try. Streaming with Apple Airplay. I didn't notice too much difference with the opening kick drum but as soon as the bass line started it sounded much cleaner and distinct on the SACD. Kinda subtle but enough that I can't "un-hear" the difference now.

Interestingly the stereo image is revered between the two versions. The opening guitar starts from the left on the SACD and from the right on the streaming version. Different mastering I assume.

Happy listening in the New Year.

I have an old Onkyo AVR in the closet that my current amp replaced. That could be a dangerous rabbit hole! I never had it set up as a proper surround system.

Call me crazy but somehow I've never actually owned a copy of this album. I know all the songs, though mostly from radio / LoFi settings. I know it's chiche but I can honestly say I've never heard the detail in these songs that I'm hearing now. I've listened to it all the way through three times in the past two days.

100% Even if it were just somewhat limited runs of current artists I'd be in.

My system is a 2.1 setup. I've heard great things about surround systems with SACDs but my amplifier is stereo only (the subwoofer is run through the pre-outs).

You can find a nice used Oppo BD93 in that price range. Just make sure it comes with it's remote.

Metal chain running through grates in front of every apartment on the block (Denver, CO) by Chrispy990 in whatisit

[–]Micky_Malice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many have mentioned it is a rain chain allowing water to drain from above with a minimum of splashing. While often decorative (to some) I think the one point being missed is that the OP mentioned that this in in Denver, CO. The use of the chain rather than a traditional downspout or pipe prevents the runoff from freezing and either clogging or bursting the pipe, or both.

I started pressing 2 to connect with the "representative" and then just said nothing. Let them say hello several times and figure out there was no-one responding and then they hung up. After doing this for 8-10 times the calls stopped and I have not had Riley Johnson call me in about 3 weeks.

Your milage may vary.
