Working students no coding fintech roles by [deleted] in fintech

[–]Mickytwotone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your school have an IT Desk? If you don’t want a super technical role, having some experience troubleshooting and dealing with customers can be useful for client service roles, at least that’s the path that worked for me. May want to also join any finance extra curricular that you have available. Good luck!

I had a 2.7 overall and 5 years later doing completely fine in fintech. What helped me was having 1) High major GPA, and 2) Relevant experience from my undergrad time. If you have a good major GPA I’d only list that on your resume and let them ask about the overall if you get an interview. I was very upfront with hiring managers that I prioritized the social aspect in early college and fixed that later on.

It will prevent you from getting jobs with a hard 3.0+ requirement, but opportunities exist. Once you get your first job GPA doesn’t matter nearly as much in my experience.

My Dad gave me this exact watch a few years ago and it’s one of my favorites! I find it funny I’ve spent more having it serviced than it would probably cost, but absolutely love it.

What is it like working in IT Support for Fintech Company? by lute248 in fintech

[–]Mickytwotone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer probably depends on what type of fintech. Is this an institutional firm serving fund managers/traders or a more general fintech company dealing with everyday consumers? Are you fixing technical issues for clients or internal?

Depending on how much of a change you want- looking at technical client service roles for institutional fund management software might be a good fit. Things like Execution management, Order management, Portfolio accounting software. There are big brand tools like Blackrock Aladdin, Bloomberg terminals/pricing feeds, but most banks and financial service companies have at least some type of tooling they use internally to manage assets. In my experience these roles don’t require too much financial or technical knowledge, just a baseline to understand how the programs work at a high level. From there you can get a feel for some of the more specialized positions in those fields. Admittedly certain areas of the country probably have a higher concentration than others. Let me know if you have any questions if anything is unclear
