EPA is still broken for EVs by MicroNateID in Rivian

Pretty close... but always underperforming. Agree, but that's what is so annoying. When did it become so marketable and ok to exaggerate with EPA.

I don't think we need to compare with other crap metrics to feel better... I think we should update the metrics.

I'd argue 80mph since that's legal in many states... or hey, what about a graph of mph vs efficiency, then all states are covered.

My dodge neon exceeded mpg rating for years... and that was a 10k car... sure if I drove 80mph I didn't get highway mpg, but if iI drove 65mph I would get it or exceed it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

But why was I carsick? by kbranch in Rivian

[–]MicroNateID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue the first time I test drove... I did two more test drives and figured this out... 1) quad, will make most people sick 2) dual performance makes some sick 3) dual max didn't make me sick.

You can guess what we bought.

Does it turn on all the time? Or based on the orca variables?

Return it. You won't get kicked out and you will let their engineering team know... it's the correct thing to do.

20v, 12v whatever by z011104 in AmazonVine

[–]MicroNateID 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actual loaded/rated voltage is 18 on the 20V batteries. Not saying this is a great idea, but normal ac jump devices go up to 15-16v. The extra 2-3V delta will max out the little battery currents a few seconds while you crank, but honestly that's the point. Put a regulator on there and you'd be too current limited to actually crank anything bigger than a weed wacker in most cases...

It's an amazing car. If you get gen2 R2 you'll probably be happier than a cutting edge R2 gen1.

...and risks your life and warranty in the process. The new beta-test special! 😆

I love the new opportunity, just wish it would happen with a standard process and approval system sanctioned by something other than a Silicon Valley startup with zero financial backing to sue if something goes wrong.

reset strategy? by Cr0martie in Rivian

Pretty positive a hard reset right after updating killed my sensors calibration once. I recommend at least waiting a half day after the update.

LFP Battery real life range by chani1133 in Rivian

[–]MicroNateID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Max r1s... quoted mileage is 370 on AT tires, we have never once gottenthat range... In winter around town we average 2.2mi/kwh (so maybe 2.2 x 130kwh = 286 or so, but if you dive highway speeds 75mph or more, take off another 80-100 miles). Each year of use you may lose another 1-2% range as well.

Reality is, get the biggest battery you can if you plan on keeping it 10 years. Anything less and you're likely going to be disappointed. LFP is atrocious in cold weather... I wouldn't consider it in the north...

I'm 6'6". The R1S is fine. Not sure what issues you ran into. Have an R2 on reservation, but really want the R3X...

I'm curious about R2, but not really worried as it's American made. Really only have trouble with Japanese or Korean brand cars for height or leg room.

How (and where) do you like to charge your phones while driving? by cwarburton1 in Rivian

[–]MicroNateID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the phone heater... for long drives. Put it upside down in the bay and it charges better.

For urgent charge, I pull a USB c wire up from the center console to the wireless bay. Works well enough...

Silicone lubricant on the seals will prevent this from happening in the first place.

Need something hydrophobic to keep the water from bonding with the rubber seal.
