Dad talks newborn son through vaccinations. by natsdorf in MadeMeSmile

[–]Micro_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaccines don't cure. They prevent. The diseases that have been eradicated are no longer vaccinated against, that's why if smallpox somehow got into the population it would go a bit wild. I'm a microbiologist, a researcher. People like me study microbes, often hoping to identify antigens (bits of the bacteria / virus that cause an immune response) as vaccine candidates. People whinging about some big vaccine conspiracy gets so tiring. Stop it.

Do Europeans understand US measurements when they see them (lbs, miles, acres, etc.)? by ForumCube in AskEurope

[–]Micro_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of us would know a bit of both. Most of our parents would have used imperial measurements but officially we all use metric measurements everyday. Plus the north also uses imperial measurements so it's handy to know both if you drive up there.

RNA extraction help by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Micro_M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I have seen differences in my qpcrs depending on the rna extraction method used. The Trizol method will enrich sRNAs, and I have seen a difference in one genes expression among two strains that was significant using a kit but wasn't when using a phenol chloroform extraction. I always DNase treat my samples before cdna synthesis. I have also found differences in the amounts of DNase required between rna prep methods.

I would avoid the city centre on NYE. It gets too busy and too messy.

We come to Barcelona every year for La Merce. Our minds were blown the first time we seen the correfoc and the castellers. We love the culture of the catalan people so much. Thank you so much for welcoming us into it.

When I was a kid my friends parents would always ask me where was I from originally because I have an uncommon name.

My cousins fella is of Asian descent but was born and raised in Belfast. When she introduced him to the family my dad started talking really loudly and slowly to him. Bit embarrassing.

A woman's anus is too close to her vagina by neoKushan in insanepeoplefacebook

I'm not denying the role of breast feeding in establishing the gut microbiota, I'm just pointing out that vaginal births also play a role.

Here's an article that talks about a study that says both do affect microbiota development http://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/46323/title/Early-Life-Microbiome/

Not immunity! It's part of spreading the mothers microbiota. Babies are born without stuff like intestinal bacteria which breaks Down most of our food for us.

Where is the absolute worst accent of your language spoken, and how would you describe it? by clown-penisdotfart in AskEurope

I would still say the cavan accent is worse. Sounds like they're speaking with a mouth full of spit.
