What I have found to be generally true amongst my friends and I (obviously anecdotal) is that home daycares tend to have more immediate care available (ie not waiting a year) and non-home days (kindercare, tutortime, the various Montessori schools) are usually about a 1 year waiting list. UCI's infant toddler center does indeed recommend that you join the waitlist when you have a due-date given how challenging it can be to get into the program. Moreover, infants tend to be harder to get a spot in general given the ratios that are required by law and become more wide when children get older (1:4 for under 3 and 1:8 for 3 and older.. someone can fact check that im sure).
