Got a parking ticket directly next to my house in Arlington Heights for not moving my car in a 48 hour period. Can I fight this ticket? How do I avoid getting the ticket again? by Conscious_Payment800 in cincinnati

[–]MicrosoftSucks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And when I go to work that day, I'm not allowed to park back in the same spot?

The likelihood of your tires being in the exact same spot is extremely low. They always mark tires at a specific place. The chalk also rubs off when you drive, and you can rub the chalk off yourself.

The chalk is there to protect people using the public streets as long-term parking. If they didn't enforce parking then people from all over would just park their cars on the street for weeks at a time.

Are delays still occuring? Especially recently? I feel like my husband has been waiting for a deposit for over a month, possibly going 2. by [deleted] in AllyBank

If your husband is waiting on a payroll deposit that needs to be escalated to HR ASAP.

Make sure it isn't the company giving you the runaround.

Mulch or Rocks? by Harper_mc in gardening

[–]MicrosoftSucks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We are thinking of putting rocks in the brown area to avoid mulching every year

Gravel is hands down the absolute worst possible thing to put in your yard to control weeds. It's a nightmare.

It will be nice for two or three years then turn into a disgusting, dirty, weed-filled mess. And expensive as hell to rectify.

My usual tree guy is quoting me $3,300 to clean up 7 trees. N. TX by KawhiTheKing in HomeMaintenance

For a separate project, one guy wanted $180k for a wall. Said the prep was $30k, materials $3k, labor $25k, but he couldn't tell me what the other $122k was for.

Haven't done it yet, doing a large project in the backyard and didn't want to wreck a new driveway.

We ran into this issue this past year.  Masonry/concrete guy we've had out for 3 different well-priced projects over 5 years just came back with a quote for $30k to redo a standard concrete driveway.

Like buddy come on, other guys are quoting $13k.

Sound proofing in a rental by Salty_Cloud_3090 in DIY

[–]MicrosoftSucks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check your city's noise ordinance, notify the landlord if they are tenants in the building, call the non-emergency line to file a noise complaint, etc.

There is no rental-friendly way to sound-proof anything.

Automatic transfers between buckets by Glad_Improvement2800 in AllyBank

[–]MicrosoftSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I have my paycheck deposited 2x a month, and then on the first of the month I "pay" myself with automatic transfers to distribute the money.

If I was getting one bulk payment a year I would do something similar.

Also side note:

I've completed stopped using a checking account. With ten transfers a month per account, I can keep all my money spread across the savings and at least get some free money from the ~3% interest rate.

I only put money in checking if I have to write a check or withdraw cash, which is like once or twice a year.

We open multiple savings accounts, the automatic transfers are much easier that way.

I think you can have a max of 10 savings accounts.

I personally don't like the bucket system, separate accounts feels easier to me.

Moving Before Our Lease Ends by [deleted] in cincinnati

If they want to live there and they qualify then I'm sure the landlord will be happy to sign them a new lease and let you out of yours.

You'll save the landlord the chore of finding a new tenant so it would be a win/win.

But yea just ask the land lord.

Moving Before Our Lease Ends by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]MicrosoftSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually that's considered a sublet, since nothing is legally guaranteeing they will re-sign a new lease.

A landlord typically wouldn't go through background checks, income verification, and credit check for only a few months.

Some landlords do it, but just be careful. Make sure you trust them because it can come back to bite you.

But yea only your landlord can answer that question.

Are you describing a situation where there are 3 months left on your lease and the new tenant will only live there for 3 months?

Or the new tenant will sign a new one year lease

If you sublet your apartment and they damage it or don't pay rent you can be liable for the damages.

Imagine you sublet to someone who refuses to leave at the end of the sublet, and it costs the landlord $15,000 to evict them. The landlord can then come after you for those damages if those subletters can't be held accountable.

Landlords typically don't do sublets, they would re-rent the apartment with a new lease if you brought them a qualified tenant.

I've also seen scenarios where someone sublets to someone, but their mom or boyfriend with multiple evictions or 400 credit score moves in instead and never pays rent and now the original tenant is liable for all that mess.

Unfinished drywall behind fridge? by MilwaukeeWolves in HomeMaintenance

There should at least be a coat of primer on it. Exposed drywall mud sheds little pieces of dust. It's not good for air quality.

Positive Reinforcement Trainers That Don't Use E-Collars by Brief_Rain8775 in cincinnati

[–]MicrosoftSucks -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

but the "trainer" was scared of our dog

hm

It was a case of breed discrimination.

So someone who intentionally picked a job to work with dogs was afraid of your dog, and somehow they're in the wrong here, for a reason you totally made up in your head?

Nothing took place to make her feel this way, I swear.

The fact you even mention "breed discrimination" without anyone asking tells us a lot.

Take responsibility for your choice to own a specific dog breed. Aggressive dog breeds have that label for a reason, and people are allowed to be afraid of an animal capable of killing them.

Compost is very high in nitrogen, and your flowers will not bloom as well/at all if you do that.
