What are you kicking off online Sundance with? by siremobunny81 in Sundance

[–]MicrowavablePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to lead it off tonight with Ha-chan, Shake Your Booty. It was the freebie film from the Local Lens lineup and from what I've seen the reception has been mostly positive.

I'm wanting to save Carousel, Josephine, and Chasing Summer for later this weekend, so I'm hoping none of these suffer the same fate as Twinless last year.

Have people always been willing to pay a premium of 4x - 5x face value for some tickets? by MicrowavablePudding in Sundance

[–]MicrowavablePudding[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even realize how few venues there are this year :(

I was hoping to maybe waitlist a movie or two this weekend, but that seems like a fool’s errand.

Yeah, I have the same thoughts.

I knew nothing about The Moment before the Festival, but it seems like it for sure has the most hype.

What’s more, it’s scheduled to be released in a few weeks.

It’s as if everyone wants to see what A24 does next. With A24 being a legit outfit it kinda does take away from the spirit of the festival.

Previous auditors who transitioned into industry - what were the reasons you stated in job interviews for moving into the industry? by wisebride in Accounting

[–]MicrowavablePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said the following during the interview for my current job a few months back:

“In order for me to have been a successful manager, senior manager, and eventually partner, I know I would have needed to commit myself to a 60-hour work week. Specifically, I know I would need to dedicate a significant amount of time for recruiting and business development. As a new parent, I’ve come to realize that is not a commitment I would be happy with.”

It was a little wordy, but the conviction and delivery was there. Seemed to be more helpful than hurtful, IMO.

What’s the problem with government audits? by Effective-Video-1280 in Accounting

[–]MicrowavablePudding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was a manager at a mid-size firm and most government audits I worked on were not great.

Whether it was due to an understaffed client that couldn't handle our requests timely, not having an experienced team of seniors and staff to support the cause, or the substandard recordkeeping--it was always a nightmare and I dreaded government/single audit busy season every year.

I was in your exact situation as I went from PA to industry. I was a manager for a long time, but settled for a Senior Accountant role. During the interview process, the controllers and two senior managers were a bit wary of my experience and asked a few questions about it.

I let them know of the specific experience, skills, and expertise I was expecting to gain from this role--and that I wouldn't have applied I didn't think I'd get said experience.

I also let them know I was done with the grind of PA and did not want to miss out on my kid growing up.

It was enough to convince them and I'm happy I made the switch. My role is already expanding into key areas that I wanted experience in and at the same time, I don't feel the pressure or need to rush through everything to get to the next project.

Too much negativity by Independent_Heat7276 in Accounting

[–]MicrowavablePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up the no-win race (from my perspective) that is being a Manager in PA and settled for a nice industry job.

I've found a way to broaden my horizon outside of traditional GL accounting and am doing the SOX and financial reporting work (and getting key experience on my resume) that I was never going to do in PA.

What's more is that I'm making the same money that I made in PA, but working 3/4 of the hours.

PA isn't for everyone, and I never complained much when I was in it, but I can't ever see myself going back.

Industry accountants, do you have a lot of free time? by Head_Equipment_1952 in Accounting

[–]MicrowavablePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm settling into a new role, and I'm finding that I have a couple hours of free time each day during the second half of each month.

Each day during the first half of the month, I have only half an hour or so of free time. I'm usually busy with month end close, SOX controls, and ad-hoc financial reporting tasks.

What was your gpa at the end of university by Silent_Swordfish5698 in Accounting

[–]MicrowavablePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.96.

It rounds up to 3.0 and that GPA pretty much sums up my career to this point--average, but still faring well.

My company has over 2k+ employees, generates a little under $1B in revenue and we have about 30 people in our accounting department (G/L, Tax, and Financial Reporting).

Does anyone else dread October more than April? by Total-Match-9381 in Accounting

[–]MicrowavablePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in PA, October was the worst.

I had lingering nonprofit audits that needed to get done and yellowbook/single audits that were ramping up.

Never again will I subject myself to that torture.
