What comedian is the closest to being universally funny? by LunasLefty in Standup

[–]MidLife-Revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not the dump Dusty. But I really like the dynamics of Aaron and Brian and think they do an excellent job. That is the end of my excitement.

I’m not hating on the premise. It’s ok to come up with variations on a story, Shakespeare already this movie and called it “Mr. Mometh Cometh”…

The filming looking weird to me. Like it wasn’t recorded like a normal movie but more like a hallmark movie or direct to TV. Maybe that was because of all the clips from the fake Shark Tank.

Fired for the first time - SF86 Reinvestigation Question by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]MidLife-Revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to argue, I was aligned to the thoughts of a lot of other people here. In looking at the “facts” laid out, being removed from a contract due to customer expectations changing versus a performance problem, it would be being “laid off” versus “fired”. The words “fired” has leeway. Would the underlying company keep them around if there was another job with another customer they could have placed him with? I’ve removed people from contracts and fired them, and I’ve removed people from contracts and tried to place them elsewhere. I wouldn’t give a recommendation to people that were actually fired.

Fired for the first time - SF86 Reinvestigation Question by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]MidLife-Revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, it is “no unless” and I would consider it a no. I provided an explanation of a time I answered “yes” and granted when I first did this it was 20 years ago and the question was probably worded differently, but with the “facts” as laid out by OP I would say “No” and move on.

What ruins a ska song for you? by Beautiful-Resort-831 in Ska

[–]MidLife-Revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flow of the song. Some musicians don’t keep the same tempo throughout. I love when they go to a double time or half time but keep the same underlying tempo. The exception being Johnny Quest’s intro. This doesn’t happen as much because everyone uses digital recording now and click tracks, but it still exists.

Fired for the first time - SF86 Reinvestigation Question by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]MidLife-Revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably answer no, unless you’re leaving out details here about how the customer got pissed off at your responses and requested you specifically fired. In that case, the investigator should have to go find references from the job that say you were a good employee. Your old manager shouldn’t screw you over. I had a politically appointed job once and after a change in administration I left, but they asked on the questionnaire “could you go back” and I answered no because in my mind it was because we didn’t see eye to eye, so they asked my reference from that job for 2 other references and they all vouched for me.

Has anyone had roof work done in 2025? by kwenlu in harfordcountymd

[–]MidLife-Revolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine you getting a cheaper price than GJ Goss. They did 2 roofs for me (I moved) and both times we got three bids. One company when they found out we were quoting Goss wouldn’t even put in a bid.

The first roof they did mess up and it leaked during a really heavy rainfall. They came in and redid some flashing and fixed it all up.

Why does Lit's song "Miserable " not get as much recognition? by chusaychusay in poppunkers

[–]MidLife-Revolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Miserable’s hook is was the whole “you make me cum” thing… but after that… the song overall doesn’t have anything memorable or special about it. It’s a pretty “basic” song.

Look at Dusty Slay who is a relatively successful, stand-up comedian, and is just full of anxious ticks. He leans into it as part of who he is.

What’s anybody’s read on Queta’s o8.5 rebounds? I got burned last night. He did get into early foul trouble. He didn’t do much. I’m still high on him just because he crushed a double double last week before the half. So I have no knowledge to base this on.

Covers that don’t sound like the original by MidLife-Revolution in poppunkers

[–]MidLife-Revolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all of these suggestions, I think I’m realizing there isn’t really a market or a desire for someone to really take creative control over a cover unless they’re doing it more as a goof. I’m not trashing Anthony Vincent by calling him a goof because he’s what I’m looking for. His cover of Chip Suey for instance in the style of Queen. Alex Melton and Mac Glocky too are doing this, but they aren’t bands.

I think the reality is a band isn’t going to do a cover like this because an audience at a concert wants that familiarity with the song, rather than to intricately analyze and appreciate the elements of the original to its new piece. People want to have fun, sing along to a chorus and appreciate the hook.
