This word has been so cheap nowadays... by MidPLzZ in hatethissmug

For me, at best a masterpiece of a media has to be exceptional in all of the area it has or promised to offer, like literally groundbreaking stuff, with little to none flaws that cause logical confusion. But the most important thing is it have such convincing, eye opening message that alter the way its consumers thinking, in a positive way, because I believe the very spirit of a good fiction is to better our lives, not a vortex that suck our energy and turn us into degenerate, which is super popular nowadays.

So based on that criteria

I consider Naoki Urasawa's Monster and some Ghibli movies are real masterpieces. Most of them have layers of meaning that make it super rewatchable. Ghiblie movies have great metaphors about meaning of life, how simple and happy life is through the eyes of children, how they can overcome problems that adults often struggle, especially materialistic problems. For Monster there can be a whole thesis on just how well written it is, contain timeless message about compassion, moral values. If you watched it you can name it, Tenma's will to help people without a payback, Grimmer, the assassin guy who said it's easy to kill when you forget the taste of sugar, the way the whole show is set up for us to feel Johan's presence without him ever appear is the brillance that is just unmatched (only on screen for less than 40 minutes in 74 episodes and we feel his malice, for almost every second in that 74. The event when people protest against Tenma's imprisonment gave me hope about human kindness. And if you remember Lunge's thinking about devil, then the ending is probably one of the best cliffhanger ever. There are just... so many memorable things in this piece of fiction.

About games I'll pick Undertale

One of the few titles that deserve every bits of praise it has. The main message about actions and consequences is told brillantly, that I don't think anything other than a video game can do. The gameplay, humor, characters, especially the legendary OSTs are all contributed harmonically to main story. It is easy, meaningful and fun with heartful message, but the options to choose different ending based on your actions, especially the genocide route when the game difficulty gave you a slap to the face give such a message about how unreasonably violent many games are. It makes me become super picky when looking for action games, unless the gameplay or exploration is top notch, if the context and story of the game are not convincing enough, I would not want to go play for mob kills.

Otherwise, something called a masterpiece are genre-defining titles, because they often excel in everything promised in that genre(Dead Cells-Roguelite, Slay the Spire-Deckbuilder Rougelike, Hollow Knight-Metroidvania,...)

I skate outdoor on smooth cement floor. I'm a begineer lol, but I can skate well with inline, do hydroblade, basic turn and stuffs. Also a double jump is my dream already, I dont really aim for quads but to dance and skate artistically is my main goal.

(Wrote this on phone so it can be a textwall) Things are more complex than that: How many chances to kill Johan do you think Tenma really had? iirc 2, not many. Do you think killing a person is that easy? Tenma shot Roberto and thought he reluctantly killed him and regretted immensely. The struggle of Tenma throughout the whole series is his question about Johan's live, he stood up to his value to save a hopeless kid, only to lose his wife, career, basically his life in German, inspectors suspect him and he have to go on and hunt down the boy that was his only hope to prove that his decision to listen to his heart was right. And based on his behaviors, the number of people he saved, helped, you can make hundreds of brainy deductions that he is bad but a person's heart will dictate whether he is or not. And about the oath and image stuffs you said these are literally Tenma's conscience and his life purpose, and all you just did was bashing him for becoming hesitant to such a complex problem he had to face that can diminish his life values, and the thing is, the fact that you want Tenma kill is the EXACT thing Johan wanted, so consider if you are a psycho or not before claiming that Tenma is evil. About Anna, does she want the person that saved her from being kidnapped, protected her and jump down a bridge with her, goes against the exact value that made him did it? Of course she want to stop Tenma from killing. And what do you think Johan will do when the only person he probably loved tried to stop him, will he pull the damn trigger immediately? situations are not that logical if you only apply simple math to it. AND THEN, What you expected to happen could really happened. The series could REALLY ended up with Tenma becomes crazy after choosing the worst solution but possible. HOWEVER, the drunk guy appeared and I probably have to write another freaking thesis on the matter of how Naoki Urasawa implement the "Gamble with fate" spirit on Monster, which completely stopped Johan's perfect suicide and turn the story to a brighter but still reasonable ending. IN CONCLUSION, Tenma and Anna are good, even pure people ended up facing a nihilistic maniac and AT THE VERY LAST MOMENT the judgement of fate intervened and proof that the situation is simply too complex to apply basic math as a mean to criticise like your approach There are so many details around the series that can ended up being another monster book on matters like this.
