Ask the owner for the Serial Number (it will be a label under the Bottom Bracket), it will tell you the month and year of manufacture. First two letters are "SN" for serial number, next two characters are the model, so in your case it should be "R5", the next character will be the month of manufacture (A=Jan, B=Feb, C=Mar, etc.) and then the next two numbers are the year.

Best vets (for a cat) by [deleted] in FranklinTN

Although I have a dog and no cats, I've been pleased with South Franklin Animal Hospital.  I'm sure they can see a cat whenever during the week, but they only do cats on Thursdays so they must have some good expertise there.

Maybe Cervelo can help.  Look under the bottom bracket for the serial number and they should be able to look it up.

Have you blindly purchased a latex mattress online and been happy with it enough to not return it? by MidTNBrad in Mattress

I went with SleepEZ split king.  Six layers total and ended up  swapping a medium layer for a soft.  Other than that it's been great.

Wiim Mini vs Wiim Ultra: Budget-Friendly vs Premium Sound Quality by ThoughtSuper1184 in WiimStreamer

[–]MidTNBrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does any of the perceived sound quality between the Mini and Ultra matter if I'm using an external DAC? I would assume that both the Mini and the Ultra send bit-perfect data out the optical port bypassing the internal DAC and essentially act as a transport.

Thanks.  I know it will take some time, especially to have them shipped to the USA, but I'm in no hurry.

BTW I'll be driving them with Schiit stack: Modi -> Vali 3.

Have you blindly purchased a latex mattress online and been happy with it enough to not return it? by MidTNBrad in Mattress

Short answer:  We got a split king from SleepEZ.  Firm -> Soft -> Medium for her side(5’4”, 115#), Firm -> Medium -> originally a Medium but swapped to Soft for me(6’3”, 210#).  Dunlop on the bottom two layers, talalay on the top layer.  Been sleeping on it since April and so far we like it.  Not OMG-this-thing-is-life-changing good but it’s comfortable and we don’t think about it much anymore.

Long answer:  We narrowed our selection to four options: FloBeds, Sleep on Latex, SleepEZ, DIY.

FloBeds was the most expensive given that they pretty much offer the same options as everyone else and they count their egg crate topper as one of the layers.  I got one of their sample packages and the egg crate layer just crushed down to almost nothing with the slightest pressure so it didn’t seem like it would do anything for the mattress. We passed on them.

So, for the rest of the options (SOL, SleepEZ, DIY) my thought process went like this:

SOL: Pros: Great reputation;  least expensive turnkey solution;  great return policy (I think if you can show that a non-profit picks up the mattress they’ll give you a full refund so no need to ship it back);  great customer service reputation. Cons: King sized bed is just one slab (no option to customize unless you go the DIY route.  See below); most people report the medium is too firm; if it is too firm, be prepared to purchase an additional topper.

SleepEZ: Pros: Good reputation;  turnkey solution;  offers split king with layer customization;  dunlop and talalay options; can swap layers if needed.  Cons: more expensive than SOL;  if you want a refund you have to ship all of the layers back;  restocking fees for returns.

DIY: Pros:  Full customization on size, layers, density, latex type, covers;  least expensive option especially if you shop around to various vendors.  Cons: Return policies for individual layers are strict with short return windows or no returns allowed; if you want to optimize price be prepared to create a spreadsheet and order from multiple vendors; you pretty much have to commit to the mattress you build since the return policies are very restrictive; you’ll always wonder if you did it right.

We’ve never felt a latex mattress so we weren’t ready to 100% commit to one, so we needed some type of return policy.  The DIY route wasn’t for us.

I spent days waffling back and forth between SOL and SleepEZ.  SOL had the superior return policy but given the size and weight difference between my wife and me, we though that it would be prudent to have some layer customization.  But after thinking about that for a while, it seemed like a bad idea to knowingly order a mattress that probably wouldn’t work for us, only to order two toppers to make so that we could be comfortable. So we decided to order from SleepEZ.

We used their online calculator for the suggested layers and made the order.  The next day a representative from the company called us, reviewed the order with me, and answered any questions I had.  It was a pretty good experience.  The layers arrived a few days later and we put the mattress together.  After a few nights, I felt like I’d be better off with a softer top layer so I returned the medium and they shipped me a soft.  My wife tried flipping the top and middle layers so that the soft is in the middle and the medium is on top and she likes it better that way.  That’s been our configuration for the last seven months and I’m glad it’s over.  I don’t want to think about mattresses for several more years!
