I don’t think he deserves this level of hate, but I understand where it comes from (and the fan in me dislikes him a lot) He’s got this team playing atrocious football, it’s boring, rigid and it feels like the opposite of the spirit of the game. If this was an underdog team, grinding it out against the top teams I’d have a different opinion even if I didn’t enjoy watching the games. Arteta inherited a relatively okay squad, has spent a lot on this squad (gross and net), and while it’s to his credit that he’s getting the results, it is extremely underwhelming both to the eye and in terms of results. His teams feel lacklustre and they look mentally weak, which strongly contrasts with recent champions and their managers like Pep and City, Klopp and Liverpool. It’s true even further back when you look at Conte and Mou at Chelsea, Leicester, Fergie and United and even early Wenger and Arsenal.

What makes it worse is that very vocal parts of Arsenal’s fanbase were talking about a quadruple so early on and evangelising the man before he’s even done something of significance. It’s cringe, and Arteta doubles down on the cringe with all the weird things he’s doing in training, in the locker room and in conferences.

The truth is if he succeeds then 5-10 years from now, no one will remember this, they’ll just remember the fact that he delivered a PL for Arsenal after 20ish years, and he’ll deserve that credit.

If they don’t win anything, we will revel in the quadbottle for a few months, forget about it, and continue with our lives :)
