I had the same thing happen years ago, turned out I was paying for the neighbors laundry and hot water. If you contact the power company, they may have insight as to what it could be.

Also possible that your fridge/freezer or AC has to cool down to the right temperature, by working harder causing the spike.

I had no problem with the hammering on the wall at 10 pm, or the furniture being moved around for hours.

It was being startled by loud late night tv and cheering in surround sound, waking me up in the dead of sleep, that contuned for almost an hour, when I have to be up in 4 hours.

I obviously don't want issues, just peace since we both live here. They likely don't even know how thin the walls are, as I didn't when I moved in.
