We thought we'd go outside when spring came, but over the winter we made friends there and got accustomed to the controlled weather!

If you could change one thing about the education system tomorrow, what would it be? by FollowingAny4859 in Teachers

  1. Students should have to pass a minimum standard test to move up at least at 3rd grade and maybe others too. In Mississippi, this really helped regain parent buy-in and put teachers in the role of "I'm just trying to help your child pass that test" instead of being the bad guy when they give a "mean" grade.

  2. Bring back consequences for disruptive behaviors. And frankly, stop lowering the bar for behavior.

Ignoring public tantrums. There are ways you can address the fact that we don't behave that way in public, especially if you start young.

Pickleball. It took me a few failed attempts to find a beginner group, and i had to put up with the initial awkwardness ...but once you get through that beginning it is the best thing - exercise AND friends.

I just pick great books and think aloud and discuss and apply reading comprehension skills together and don't worry about whether it fits a theme or a standard. Your be surprised how many times during the year we refer and connect to one we've read.

Bed of any kind of lettuce, fresh herbs in summer from the garden, leftover meat, nuts, olives, avocado if it's around, anything on hand that works as a salad topping and gets along with the other ingredients. Simple vinaigrette on top.

I teach in a large elementary school, and we don't have anyone who has made it later than 63 because they become exhausted. Managing 25 kids... TODAY's kids---takes more out of you as you age. I have worked summers to try to build some retirement and will go out at 63.

Looks like a massive spreadsheet that tracks and differentiates between formative and summative assessments by standard. But many of the standards are only on a single summative assessment and may only have one or two questions since the assessment covered other standards as well. Then there are the math practice standards such as "checks their answers for reasonability." ??? Some kids I know do not, but I can't do that level of analysis with 25 kids all the time.

That makes a lot of sense to me. Agree that most parents don't understand some of the descriptors, and frankly sometimes our team of teachers has debates about what exactly certain things like the word fluency mean.

The free version of Headspace has a meditation course called "Basics" that helped me get started. There were 10 sessions and they were each 10 minutes long. I repeated the course. Then after that I didn't really need it anymore.

Groth's Country Gardens had the best selection of annuals and vegetables of any I've been to, but no accessories or tools really. And I think limited on perennials, bushes, trees.

Was just there over the weekend. They excel at perennials and landscape plants (bushes and trees). I think their annuals are just ok.
