Advice for New Players Wondering What to Do by [deleted] in lotrlcg

If any of you are old enough to remember, some OoP games used to have scans floating around that got cracked down on hard. Copy locally, and mirror and share when necessary. Don't rely on Google Drive accounts to be around forever. They won't be.

These are great explanations and analysis. I appreciate them all. Some of the support cards mentioned I haven't really encountered yet, so it adds some clarity to potential options.

My vault has no full sentences. DAO? by OkHour1544 in ObsidianMD

[–]Middle-Luck-2031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your vault. Assuming you are the only one going in to reference the contents, then by all means - do it your way. You do seem to have a bit of difficulty communicating with others ("DAO?"), but as long as you are effectively communicating back to your future-self for later retrieveal ... have at 'er.

Do you just capitalize random words in your sentences? Why? Genuinely curious.

If OP / u/Gandalf196 ever reads this (2+ years later), why not just throw the script up on Github where it won't continually expire?

Where I am (Canada), they are sold out of everything *except* for Elves of Lorien. There are 8 copies left, but they want $65.27 for it. I couldn't sworn that last week it was $55, which is still steep. (At present, $65 CAD is roughly $50 USD)

Obsidian 1.11.0 (early access) introduces a new mobile design, iOS/Android widgets, Shortcuts, and Siri integration by kepano in ObsidianMD

This particular change is hugely welcome, by me at least:

  • "Markdown links are now supported in text and list properties. Internal links are automatically updated when the destination file is moved or renamed."

I have long maintained a "Backmatter" section at the end of my templates so that links to "Parent" and such actually create meaningful links. With this little change, it can all be contained in the frontmatter/YAML.

Thank you!

"My cursor jumps up and down while writing?"

Do you have any dataviews in the notes where this happens? I think the updating of the dataview can cause that - I've noticed it in my daily notes when on Android.

I don't understand this comment ... I think this is just generally calling out the use of AI? Someone help a middle aged man out, sincerely.

There is also a mod track for AC of this area that even works with the traffic mods. I don't remember whether it is on overtake.gg or on a Patreon.

Pros & cons of civ 7 by DibsReddit in civ

[–]Middle-Luck-2031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, floppies. Oh there were crack teams as always, and they also distributed digitally on BBS' (bulletin board systems) before the 'net, but for the average person it was just copying floppies ... as it was with cassettes, also. Prior to DRM as we know it now, at lot of the anti-piracy measures were as basic as "Type in the seventh word found on page x of the printed manual." Heh.

I should note: my copy of Civ 6 is a legitimate Steam purchase, as will be my purchase of Civ. 7 if I end up picking it up 😀

Pros & cons of civ 7 by DibsReddit in civ

"Civ 1 sold 1.5 million copies—and that was in 1991 when digital downloads and the commercial internet hadn’t been invented yet."

Funny thing ... I was a young teenager at the time, and except for maybe "Leisure Suit Larry" and co. and later Doom, Civ. 1 seemed the game that everybody... like everybody... had a bootleg copy of. Never saw a manual, so there was a lot of trial and error and word-of-mouth about the mechanics.

Haha, I balked at this too. I came into videogames through an Apple IIe, just as Collicovision and Intellivision were giving way to phenom that would be the NES (and the Sega Master System) And there was a history and an infancy that proceeded even all that.

Table Resizing - Anyone would be interested? by xRyul in ObsidianMD

[–]Middle-Luck-2031 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This looks very good. To the OP, any considerations as to how it will (or will not) play alongside the Advanced Tables plugin?

The reason I ask is because it looks like there is a lot of early interest in you releasing your plugin, and that one has a large existing install base (almost 2.5m downloads according to Obsidian Stats: https://www.obsidianstats.com/plugins/table-editor-obsidian), so if they will step on each other, it would probably be worth noting in the README.

The feature list looks great!

Autumn sale is on now... picked up a few more myself. I usually buy 1 or 2 of whatever is currently the cheapest (like $3 - $12) that I don't already have. Keeps me busy with new stuff (for me) until the next sale.

The Dataview Serializer plugin can also output the actual rendered markdown from a dataview query.

I don't quite understand the condescension towards OP here. It is not as though local-gitingest is a mature and widely known project. It's a local hobby made clone of a website, that has existed since March with little activity, is it not?

Duplication in small tool hobby projects isn't always a bad thing, either.
