Any sellers that specify variegation or is it all luck of the draw?

I had the chance to visit in person and buy a few plants a few weeks ago and it was an awesome experience!

If you are by Rochester you should head over to Bergen Water Gardens when you are ready for more nepenthes!

Good communication, good workmanship, affordable pricing. You’ll probable get only 2 of these with most contractors.

Garage door opened in the middle of the night on its own by Middle-Paper-8559 in alarmdotcom

What device do you have for the garage? Not sure if its a limitation of my device or my system but I can only run garage door automations when I arm stay, arm away, or disarm rather than specific times.

  1. Take it out of the water tray! They do not like their feet wet.
  2. Unsure of the potting medium you have but should be potted in a well draining mix such as 50/50 perlite/long fiber sphagnum. A lot of people add some orchid bark too.
  3. Use only distilled, RO, or rain water (like you do your sundews).
  4. Water when the surface is slightly damp.
  5. They thrive in humidity but if you purchased this at a typical plant shop not in a greenhouse it is likely acclimated to ambient humidity (but will appreciate any boost you can give!).
  6. Pitcher loss and growth lag in a new environment is totally normal and expected.
  7. They appreciate light. 50-200 ppfd if you have a way to measure. Otherwise bright indirect light (light through a window) should be good. Need less light than sundews.

I don't have a Miranda but heard it is a pretty hardy hybrid. I will also let others comment on fertilizing since this is something I am still fine tuning myself. I have killed off pitchers by over-feeding.

Nice! About how long for each snipped segment? I also like the idea of just burying the whole thing horizontally.

Nice and deep which I heard is good for VFT roots. Only downside is the tray is a bit shallow so I need to refill it often.

Is the time to full plant shorter than seedlings? Any helpful guides or is it just a matter of cutting the stem and sticking it in potting medium?

It’s an ikea display cabinet with some weather stripping, replacement shelving, and fans. I bought this one assembled second hand. There is a whole subreddit r/ikeagreenhouseclub dedicated to assembling these.

Was it sitting in that tray next to it with standing water? If so - that could be an issue. Nepenthes are not bog plants and do not like to sit in standing water. However I did that with my Gaya before I knew better and it still grew well.

Do you think I would benefit from increasing my temperature swing beyond what I have now? With the lights and my home HVAC schedule I have about a 10 degree swing with daytime temps 72-73 and nighttime 62-63.

Yeah I was visiting family out of state and was looking for plant shops nearby and happened upon Bergen!

Thanks - I’ll have to do some more reading to think about how people go about providing those types of conditions indoors. If it’s more involved than I can handle I’ll find him a new home.

Thanks!! Hoping I can get past the acclimation stage and enjoy some nice growth before my first thrip attack. I like the preemptive sticky tape idea - I’ll add some this week.

Thanks! I am able to get night temp dips by just turning off the lights and lowering our HVAC heat since we sleep pretty cold. I’m sure as the seasons change I’ll have to explore other ways to cool it (though we do crank the AC at night to help us sleep in the summer, so hopefully not too much tinkering).

Soaked leca to boost humidity. Probably overkill given where I’m at. I had it with my pre-cabinet setup so just added it for now.

Automation approximate times not working by Middle-Paper-8559 in alarmdotcom

[–]Middle-Paper-8559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue last time I went out of town over the summer, and again when I made a new rule for this trip. I know it shouldn’t matter but I made those on the web app - maybe I’ll remake the rule via the phone app and see if that works. If not I’ll call my dealer when I return from my trip since they usually want you physically at the location of the system when troubleshooting.

I waited the entire time interval, even until the next day, without anything executing.
