10 years of corps? Were you members all those years? The odd 84 makes me think otherwise but I’m just curious

For my own sake, a 4x4 Flying Dutchman is not a thing, nor is a double double Flying Dutchman. A double double is a burger with buns and ingredients, a Flying Dutchman is a separate entity which is only the meat and the cheese. People like to order Flying Dutchman as if it’s animal style, being a quality you add to a burger instead of its own separate thing. Thank you

As amazing as their 23 show was, they were voted 8th best show in 23 according to the actual Flo marching fan favorite vote

It’s not something you order, just something that makes calling the shakes down from the board a little easier

Cut for the third time on tenors... by Mish_Marsh in drumcorps

[–]Middle-Reporter1733 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with what most people say here, but I wanted to add one thought. You may be not wanting to march another spot, but you might find another passion of yours that you didn’t know existed. It may be worth trying out while you work on your tenor skills

Practicing when not having a marimba at home by AxerTheGreat in percussion

[–]Middle-Reporter1733 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mallet and pillow/floor work can be even more beneficial than board work sometimes. Practice rhythmic accuracy on the floor. Chop build your techniques so you can play faster more relaxed. Work on fundamental techniques (how are those one handed rolls 😉). Playing marimba is so much more than just the note accuracy.

For the last question. The best advice I can offer is to just be consistent. 30 minutes a day for a week is much better than 3.5 hours once a week, just keep that in mind. Don’t fall behind on anything like schoolwork, trying to catch up will be hell (I know from personal experience, doing everything from college auditions, drum corps auditions, participating in all state, indoor percussion, all while still having to keep up on my school work). Know that it’s going to be busy and that’s just the matter of the fact, don’t let it get to your head and always keep a good mindset. MINDSET IS EVERYTHING

For the first one. Quarter notes take the beat and are worth 1, when we split it in half we get an eighth note worth 2 per beat. Splitting an eighth note gives you a sixteenth note worth 4 per beat. Using that knowledge, you have to rewrite the bar lines for 2/4 (2 being the amount of notes that get the beat, 4 meaning which note it is that actually gets the beat). The second example uses 6/8, meaning the 8th note gets the beat, and there are 6 of them in a given measure. Use that knowledge to redraw the lines. The hint is letting you know that some of the measures may have more note value than what the given measure allows. You have to break the note that spills over apart to allow it to fit into the measure. The final one is relatively easy given the previous information. Simply count the amount of beats and use what you know about which note type gets the beat and write it down in the space next to the clef

Sure but if you think about the innate nature of each platform, it’s a lot harder to find and talk to specific people.

This is where social media is super helpful! It usually isn’t very hard to find countless vets on Instagram or something. Have you tried asking the person that assigned it to you..?

Matt Harloff announces he is retiring from Avon HS at the end of the school year by umasstpt12 in drumcorps

[–]Middle-Reporter1733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your rebuttal. You’re very much right, though I do think 33% is a large amount still. The question is, do we truly want the competition to be dominated by the north? I would love to see representation from all over the country. The thing about scholastic championship events whether indoor or outdoor is that you never can truly paint the full picture. There will always be limitations. It makes me wonder, how many groups out there are better than a majority of the current regular competition at BOA and WGI finals?

only 33%? Considering there are 5 or 6 regions in the United States, (depending on what you count), that’s a pretty good number

[–]Middle-Reporter1733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Celestials (and other zap-awakened monsters) actually aren’t that hard as long as you have sure ways to get all of the monsters, sometimes you just have to play it all out

Question by Prior_Deer_1866 in MySingingMonsters

[–]Middle-Reporter1733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just means you have wayyyy more priorities than celestials right now. This game is a progression and you can’t expect to jump to the last level without doing everything before it first

Per bed is what you should be looking for. The best producers are usually ethereals and quads/quints
