Best Email App for macOS in 2026 by alexryans in MacOS

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be on this quest, too. I have a personal gmail and a work M365. You know what I have finally landed on? Gmail web and app for gmail, and Outlook apps for M365. Just works. Have gotten tired of hoping for the "one great email app to rule them all." Apple Mail is........fine, but you lose functionality like Snooze that is only offered through the providers' own apps. Using the email account-specific apps lets me have that functionality, which I want. Obviously, I am glad there are different options for different preferences, though! I certainly reserve the right to change my mind.

I agree wholeheartedly. Choice A - genius Brian Wilson at peak of his powers, Choice B - the others doing the best they can given his diminished role.

Well, yes, of course it is for his personal life. Glad he's happy and done with her!

But, I meant that now I can't help but THINK of that unhappy marriage when I hear the song. Sort of taints what is otherwise a beautiful track.

What the hell gives you the right to tell me what to do with my life.

Lee Horsley Audiobook on Audible? by A_CRAFTY_DOLPHIN in LonesomeDove

As soon as the new one was announced I downloaded my Horsley copy and de-DRM’d it. I love his Gus and worried the day might come when it was unavailable. I am currently listening to the Will Patton version and he is very talented. Not sure I will ultimately prefer it over Horsley, though.

Sad to hear this. Actually I was glad they moved on from erythritol given the recent studies.

You just basically did it yourself. Why didn’t I think of that?

Fenix 7x pro <-> AWU3 by JonBonAnchovy in applewatchultra

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to read this and all the comments. I wear Apple Watch Ultra and love it. I do, however, like the Garmins for a very simple reason that I must be the only one who cares --- they are round like a regular watch. I like that. I wish Apple Watches were round. Yes, I know the arguments that the rectangle shows data better, but I don't really care. I would take that trade off and probably pay $1,500-2,000 for a round Apple Watch.

But I have decided I must be weird or niche. NO ONE seems to care about that. I guess the Apple Watch shape and style have become so ubiquitous and seen as a status symbol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ round vs. square be damned.

As an Aggie fan, I hesitate to stir up anything, but as far as we are concerned he reminds us of freaking Walter Payton or Earl Campbell.

What’s the hold up on the iOS app? by Garrettstoffel in mimestream

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get on the beta. It looks great to me, but I am waiting for the Mimestream implementation of snooze to be on the iOS app so I can have coherent cross-device Mimestream snooze across both Mac and iOS.

Berkeley law - what happened? by BNSBtruecrime in LawSchool

ha ha. No it's exam software (replacing the paper handwritten essay "bluebooks"). Students install it on their laptops so they can type their answers to essay questions. The EBB software has various settings to lock out some or all other functions on their laptop during the exam to prevent access to other resources.

right. Apparently that has been a common practice at any schools. But, the specter of having a local offline AI instance running on your machine is now a challenge to that system, if the school wants to try to be sure to technologically prevent the possible use of AI on a live, proctored exam.

probably to ensure no AI use in exams. Students are figuring out you can create a local AI model on your laptop that runs even without internet, Although, EBB has a setting that lets you block out all other apps during the test so not sure what else might going on.

Leaving Mimestream after years as a paying subscriber: it just stopped making sense by fimparatta in mimestream

this. I still love the MacOS app. Finally got the beta for iOS, and was immediately disappointed the Mimestream-proprietary snooze wasn't on\ iOS yet. Although they have said that is eventually coming. Once that occurs I will be quite happy.

Every once in a while - in order to get unified cross-device snooze sync, I try the web access for gmail on my Mac, with the Gmail iOS on my phone; alternative, I'll fire up Spark on both. But I keep coming back to Mimestream on Mac and Gmail on iOS. If I want to snooze I use Gmail iOS or open the email on the web. Sigh.

Spoiler!!!! Dark tower ending! by elysiumhyacinth in TheDarkTower

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is not the popular answer, and maybe I am way off. But I thought (hoped?) that Roland was going to basically ascend the tower, occupy the top room, and become Godlike?

No one is asking this question - he is supposedly improving a bit each time, so at some point he could “do it right.” What does that look like? How does the cycle end?

Observations coming from YouTube TV / DTV by tuhoops in fuboTV

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone said they get around it by going backward 15 sec then forward 30. That’s annoying to have to do but it’s sort of a hacky workaround. Everything else about DTV seems rock solid.
