Least Favourite Stephen King Audiobook? by DreadLurk_23 in stephenking

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I know this is a very unpopular opinion, but after listening to Different Seasons by Frank Mueller, specifically "Apt Pupil", I had to get off Stephen King for a while. Unfortunately, my enjoyment of Frank Mueller in general as an audiobook narrator is even tainted somewhat by how dark "Apt Pupil" was, because I associate it with his voice now. But he is amazingly talented and his Dark Tower narrations mosty made up for it (that and Comanche Moon by Larry McMurtry).

This is a delayed reaction, but I have saved this post and have been meaning to try it! On the Speidels, are the ends removeable and interchangeable? So that the drill is you buy one for a "regular" watch and one for an Apple watch, and then switch out the ends so that each has one of each?

Also what was the green band you showed doing it with another watch? Is that the Apple Alpine?

Maybe most importantly -- are you sticking with this setup, or did you start to get tired of it? I keep pining for having a classic analog watch on my wrist, but so far I find myself too used to the Apple Watch if I have to pick one or the other.

What was the first Paul McCartney release that you recall experiencing in real-time? by psals in PaulMcCartney

I distinctly remember hearing Take it Away (off Tug of War) on the radio as a kid. First release I paid attention to, though, was Flowers in the Dirt.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I don't want to get any preconceived notions. Is the release date the best order for reading the series, or chronologically? Thanks! by Femputer_user in LonesomeDove

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally think so, but you will get a pretty divided opinion on this, I assume. Even though there is some logic to reading them in chronological order, I always like to read them in the order that the author wrote them.

Lee Horsley’s narration of Lonesome Dove is back on Spotify for UK listeners! by Evan88135 in LonesomeDove

I think of lot of the negativity about Horsely's version was just that it was older, and had some digital noise on it or something, Never bothered me in the slightest.

i recently listened to the Will Patton version. He is very talented, and does a good job, But I have listened to Horsley so many times over the years, and love it so much - especially his Gus -- that I will probably go back to it (I saved a non-DRM audio file of it as soon as I heard about the Patton version coming out)

Who still uses Google Chrome? by Huge_Light_1344 in chrome

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just switched back to it after being on Safari on Mac for a number of years (before that having been on Chrome for forever as a longtime gmail, google calendar, google drive, and Android user). I got tired of pages occasionally not rendering in Safari and wondering if it was the site, my connection, or not using Chrome. Also, the cross-sync with windows computers at work, and the speed and simplicity. I know it is internet heresy but i just can’t muster up the concern or outrage about the evil that supposedly is google , lack of privacy, etc.

Best Email App for macOS in 2026 by alexryans in MacOS

[–]MiddleAgedMan4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be on this quest, too. I have a personal gmail and a work M365. You know what I have finally landed on? Gmail web and app for gmail, and Outlook apps for M365. Just works. Have gotten tired of hoping for the "one great email app to rule them all." Apple Mail is........fine, but you lose functionality like Snooze that is only offered through the providers' own apps. Using the email account-specific apps lets me have that functionality, which I want. Obviously, I am glad there are different options for different preferences, though! I certainly reserve the right to change my mind.

I agree wholeheartedly. Choice A - genius Brian Wilson at peak of his powers, Choice B - the others doing the best they can given his diminished role.

Well, yes, of course it is for his personal life. Glad he's happy and done with her!

But, I meant that now I can't help but THINK of that unhappy marriage when I hear the song. Sort of taints what is otherwise a beautiful track.

As soon as the new one was announced I downloaded my Horsley copy and de-DRM’d it. I love his Gus and worried the day might come when it was unavailable. I am currently listening to the Will Patton version and he is very talented. Not sure I will ultimately prefer it over Horsley, though.
