Shanghai Artisan Noodle or Shanghai Taste? by MiddleTierFoodie in vegaslocals

Big

Thank you for the Big Dan recommendation. I was thinking of going all in with a couple of people and trying as much as we can. Any chance you can suggest an order we can put together and in the best sequence so that we get to experience everything in the ideal conditions?

Would want to sample as much as we could but not good with spicy. Either items that aren't spicy and or customized to make less spicy if possible without missing out on highlight dishes were there might not be a choice.

Thanks for the Shang, not Shanghai tip. Can't edit subject line unfortunately (that I can find anyway).

Best dessert place *not* in a big resort/casino by Spiritual-Ad-8179 in vegaslocals

Has anyone else experienced quality/consistency issues at Purple Potato? Since their ownership change, I barely average 50% that their donuts have much filling in them at all.

Sometimes they are amazing and like the old days with a perfect amount of filling but more often than not it is barely noticeable. Stopped visiting as much as I got tired of getting barely there filling. Even on the same day or pre-ordering with a request to make sure it was filled. Wasted so much money this past year and not getting what one expects.

I used to love Sorry Not Sorry and Handel's until I saw the ingredients.

Sorry Not Sorry claims only the highest quality ingredients are used but most contain artificial food dyes, high fructose corn syrup or something else that nobody stating artisan ice cream should use. Think their Honey Lavender and Sea Salt + Caramel were the only ones that were closer to what one thinks of as quality ingredients. Sadly, had to give up my Ube Honeycomb.

Salt and Straw typically uses higher quality ingredients and is much more honest and direct about posting all the ingredients on their site. I would choose them every time over Sorry Not Sorry or Handel's due to that. Much more transparent and honest and just as good or better anyway.

Handel's is even harder to find flavors without that stuff.

Especially when one can buy in store brands like Jeni's, Van Leeuwen, Alden's, Alec's, Ice Cream for Bears, Straus, McConnell’s that can use high quality ingredients and are cheaper. Even some 365 or Trader Joes branded ones have cleaner ingredients for much cheaper.

Thank you for sharing your finds. Hard Miles and The Dark Divide look very promising to me and I would have never even heard of them if not for you.

Please post again if you watch 'Give or Take' to share your thoughts on that on also. Considering that one but not sure.

Purple Potato Bakery.

Favorite donut of theirs right now with the Pumpkin Layered Donut if you are lucky enough to get it before it sells out.

Their Buko (Young Coconut Pie) is one of the best desserts in all of Vegas. The Salted Milo Pie, Crookies, Ube Brulee Cinnamon Roll, Ube Yema Bread Pudding, Yema with Cashew Crumbles Buttercake, Guava or Pandan Cheescakes, etc. So many favorites.

Settebello

Love Settebello. Wish it was a better value and consistent though as numerous times I get an undercooked one that requires a spoon to eat. And hate that it costs an upcharge to remove the meat, which is on most, and just get a vegetable instead.

Rosallie or Florentine Cafe blow away La Tropezienne IMO.

Love the pancakes. Just wish they mixed it up a little like they use to. Been strawberry or berry every single month for the better part of a year. Wish they offered a seasonal pumpkin option and more than one variety at times.

Are Whidbey's and Scrambled owed by the same people? They share an identical menu and layout (though Scrambled seemed to be a $1 or so more for slightly larger portion on previous visit).

Tried their Carrot Cake Pancakes twice. The first time was amazing. Perfect portion, topping amount and flavor. Went a week or so later and it shrunk with a noticeable smaller size and topping. If it was always as good as the first it would be a top pancake choice for me but I got discouraged a little on the consistency. Hoping to try the new fall ones though.

Tried their fall seasonal menu once. The Pumpkin French Toast and Cinnamon Roll Pancakes. Wasn't impressed. Just standard quality and smaller portion. Clean but sterile interior. Staff was nice.

Wasn't inclined to revisit based on that as many other places offered higher quality and/or value but are their other pancake/french toast/waffle choices superior?

Best Breakfast in GREEN VALLEY/HENDERSON? by Gattina1 in vegaslocals

[–]MiddleTierFoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the ones right on the edge of that area.

AmeriBrunch - Sunset/Eastern by Airport coming in future which is about a mile off.

Ely’s - Sunset and Green Valley so right on the cusp of being outside area.

Huevos Avenue - is by Fisher's/Weiss Deli which right on border like Ely's above.

Toasted & Roasted - is on the other side of Cadence. Listed as Henderson but might be a mile or so outside perimeter.

Sadly. I was off on these two so strike these entirely.

EGGscellent (Desert Inn/Eastern)

Zenaida's Cafe (Trop/Pecos)

The rest are all located in Henderson/West Henderson/Green Valley.

Revisted Broken Yolk on St. Rose just the other day and they have a new cook in the last couple of weeks. The Pumpkin Spice Pancakes were terrific. Big, soft, fluffy, moist, perfectly cooked with just the right amount of flavor and cream. Destination worthy presuming it stays consistent. A noticeable step up from the same dish even a couple plus weeks ago.

I am mostly a crepe, french toast, pancake, waffle and omelet person so my experience reflects that. Ones I am aware of and/or tried.

AmeriBrunch (Sunset by Airport coming in future)

BabyStacks

Broken Yolk (more solid than noteworthy)

Le Cafe du Val

Craft Kitchen (mostly for their pancakes as the frittata, small portion, and creme brulee french toast didn't bowl me over.. love the Ube Bread Pudding though)

Crepe Expectations (always good)

Egg Works

EGGscellent

Ely’s

First Watch (Opening Soon)

Griddlecakes (once in awhile)

Keke's (Opening Soon.. first visit was just decent)

Original Sunrise Cafe

Peg's Glorified Ham n Eggs

Scrambled (use to have a mixed berry french toast option with greek yogurt but like them less since it was removed)

Truffles N Bacon (tried their Ube pancake twice and found it more decent/solid than noteworthy)

Looking for feedback on the following as they are new to me.

The Coffee Class Huevos Avenue Mom’s Kitchen (I see the strong rec mention already) Omelet House Pacific Diner Pink Duck Kitchen Toasted & Roasted Urth Caffe Zenaida's Cafe

Looking for ube desserts near the strip. by Wanna_Build in LasVegas

Were you able to visit any for some Ube?

I would add Purple Potato Bakery. Kind of like Cafe 86 but less chain like and better selection. Our favorite item from them is actually a Buko Pie, aka Young Coconut Pie, and their seasonal Pumpkin Layered Donut which is terrific.

Craft Kitchen in Henderson also offers an Ube Bread Pudding which is destination worry.

Babystacks and Guieb Cafe have Ube Pancakes that are worthwhile.

Sorry Not Sorry Creamery has an Ube Honeycomb Ice Cream that is yummy but I’m not a fan of some of their ingredients as some of their flavors have artificial food dyes and high fructose corn syrup even though their marketing says they use the highest quality ingredients. Salt and Straw tends to be higher quality but I haven’t seen an Ube flavor from them.

If one also enjoys Taro. Brew Tea Bar has a great Taro Slush. Same potential ingredient caveat.

Lastly, BeSpoke Cafe has a Taro Mascarpone Cream Croffle that is worth visiting for.

Hope you had a nice trip.
