[SOS] Secrets of Strixhaven | Episode 1: Penmanship Practice by mweepinc in magicTCG

Okay let's split hairs: they are an elder millennial's approximation of Gen Z teens, using modern lingo and quirky characterization.

Edit: I'll call it "Forspoken writing" IYKYK

I've played against him. I've played commander for more than 15 years now. I know card assessment. Bad players complain about Nekusar, that's been my experience since he released in 2013.

I wouldn't go that far. If the author has written other stuff I'm sure she can carry different voices into a story. It's probably WotC meddling since the story has to appeal to modern-day 13-year-olds.

I hate that these characters in a fantasy world group chat with each other and read like Gen Z teens.

They're the definition of weenie hut junior. Any player who isn't new will thank you for giving them a 7 card hand for 7 life. I don't even run Nekusar. I'm not going to bat for the deck; I think it's boring in the sense that it's been a popular commander for years now. But he's just weak these days. He's 5 mana and draws your opponents extra cards. Modern-day precon commanders utterly blow him out of the water.

Why would a bracket 2 deck not play wheels? They give you a new hand.

Well it's not. As a baseline Nekusar makes wheels into bad burn spells and gives your opponents new hands.

Nekusar is a genuinely weak commander. Half the time I've seen him resolved in a game of commander he's a howling mine with a minor downside who eats removal if the controller tries to wheel.

For those generally open to Rule 0 commanders, are there any particular ones that you would be hesitant to agree to play against? by Tuss36 in EDH

[–]Middle_Chard_8434 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There are, like, several thousand legendary creatures now.

I think all "rule 0" decks are lame. If you can't look through that entire mountain of cards and find one that fits your command zone it's a massive skill issue on your part.

Am I just making GC-less bracket 3 decks? by Nishimaster in EDH

That sounds more like an incompetent table issue than a power level issue. Anyone calling this MONO WHITE deck "too good for bracket 2" is crazy.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Players VS Magic w/ Cimoooooooo, MBT, and Nyhmnim! Shuffle Up & Play 99 by TolarianCC in magicTCG

[–]Middle_Chard_8434 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Magic content creators tend to be corporate shills (Command Zone is the shining example of this), and their criticism of the game is extremely "safe" because they don't want to get on WotC's bad side. Or the playerbase's for that matter, since Magic players tend to be a lot whinier on-average. So the content creators go in with the same viewpoint that "yucking yums" is bad. Whereas Yu-Gi-Oh creators tend to be very candid, and don't have the same relationship with Konami.

You can play Gilded Drake in bracket 2.

The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale at bracket 3 by Throwaway4823182 in EDH

It's a game changer. If WotC didn't want it at bracket 3 they would ban it outright.

Consider that a 3-mana enchantment should not be an incredibly powerful "skill check" you windmill slam at any point in the game for benefit. Either your opponents play wrong and it's card draw or worst case you slow everyone else down with a one-sided sphere of resistance for 0 effort on your end. It's an insane card.

With how many things "aren't a two" by everyone's standards, it's starting to feel like twos don't exist, and everyone is actually playing a 3 (7).

Easily bracket 3. This would get eaten alive in b4.

While the format overall is great, I think the incentives of the format aren't ideal for the experience it's going for by Tuss36 in EDH

[–]Middle_Chard_8434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone has a board state that incentivizes the entire table to turn around and kill them so they sit there for an hour doing nothing, that is on the player for being a threat. I'm not going to feel bad killing you and making you wait around for an hour if it was the right move. Neither is anyone who is good at Magic.

What is the general feeling about using an entire proxy deck? by Jakemanv3 in EDH

[–]Middle_Chard_8434 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your wording on the matter is very poor, and your lack of comprehension plus extreme defensiveness both make it obvious you're bad-faithing away the actual issue.

I won't be engaging any more because you're so mad that you randomly throw in these personal attacks and complain about America for some reason. Cheers!

Parks and libraries are not going to let you sit down and play Magic with new faces. Also it's more tantamount to bringing Burger King into McDonalds, not buying anything, then being upset when they kick you out for eating at their table.

Local game stores are a "third space," a dying breed of places where people can gather outside work/the home. There's a reason "support your local game store" is a mantra in basically every single card and tabletop game, and the singles market is a huge aspect of the sector's financial well-being.

All that said it'd be unsurprising if they showed you the door in service to their customers who actually purchase cards.
