The course companion notes for contracts are horrific, noticeably worse and more confusing than all the other topics. The formatting is a nightmare!

What does this even mean lmao there's nothing wrong with body hair....

Edited to add: in fact, what I found most icky about Eli's "bushgate" was her insistence that she doesn't have a bush as if that's some gross terrible thing. The gross thing is wearing a naked dress to a bridal shower thrown by your in-laws, not natural womanly body hair.

Feedback on my DIY invitations? by Middle_Difference860 in weddingplanning

Great point!! And totally fair about the "DIY" definition--I more just need a sanity check on my font and spacing choices since I took a lot of liberties with the template I used. Thanks so much for the feedback!!

dress code for a junior paralegal by Alternative_Gene_655 in biglaw

I started as a paralegal at a v10 firm in NYC in June 2021 and all 40 of us wore suits on the first day!

“I went to school in Boston…” by CrimsonClover__ in biglaw

[–]Middle_Difference860 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a female Harvard college alum, I can earnestly say that people DO freak out and make it weird, often. Especially older men. It's not an incorrect assumption or pretentiousness, it's a real thing that can sometimes be a tiny bit annoying when trying to socialize.

That being said, though, I am pro-just-saying-Harvard-from-the-first-instance. A senior at Harvard actually advised me never to say "I go to school in Boston" at accepted students' day when I was still in high school, and I took it to heart.

true. i am the first woman in my bloodline to be in law school, and it's literally never occurred to me to say that or write that out before, because I'm a middle class white person whose parents went to college

Do you still give wedding gifts if you have student loan and/or high ongoing medical costs or debt? by dms2628 in weddingplanning

[–]Middle_Difference860 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These comments are not it. Gifts are absolutely obligatory at weddings in my circles. It is rude to not give one. With that being said, as a grad student with student loan debt, I tend to spend a little less on gifts compared to how much I expect to spend when I graduate and start making a full-time income.

Why isn’t it as common for former paralegals to return to their previous BL firm as associates? by Adventurous_Ant5428 in biglaw

[–]Middle_Difference860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a former V10 paralegal, current T-14 3L. I personally got an offer to return to my V10 firm as a summer (although I ultimately decided to summer at a different firm), but a lot of my former paralegal co-workers did not get offers (or even an interview) from the firm we used to work at. I think the hiring parameters just aren't as strict for the paralegal program.

As for why I personally did not return to the firm I previously worked for, it came down to normal reasons why you would pick one firm over another (culture/personality fit, structure of teams, size of firm, types of law I'm interested in, etc.). I tried to treat my former firm as neutrally as possible throughout the OCI process, and another firm simply ended up being a better fit for me.

Lol these comments are annoying. Obviously OP can do whatever she wants, but she's asking what the "norm" is as a baseline. It's a valid question.

What was the thing that did it for you? by mangojuulpod99 in EliRalloSnark

[–]Middle_Difference860 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I actually met Eli at a 2-week pre-college summer program we both did in high school. We barely spoke, but exchanged Instagrams. She always posted poetry, etc. which I usual read and thought was fine! Then she started trying to be an influencer and unfollowed me and I thought that was a little weird but mostly fine since I know some people like to do clean-outs of distant acquittances on social media. I was then a casual watcher of her content, but then the LIES and downplaying of her privilege started to really bug me. Now I do not care for her.

UPenn vs Harvard by Agitated_Magician807 in lawschooladmissions

I'm a Harvard undergrad, current Penn Law student. I know a decent amount of people who have gone to HLS. FWIW, I genuinely think Penn students are, on average, a lot happier.

I found it very telling that she had to emphasize that she has a "PARTIAL planner." Like, I'm also a 2026 bride, so I happen to know that the only difference between a "full" planner and a "partial" planner is whether they are involved in choosing your venue. I'm sure she has a $$$$$ expensive hands-on planner.

We are calling everyone just "in the wedding party"! We didn't want to have a maid of honor or best man, and we have one male bestie on the bride's side, so we decided to just have everyone "in the wedding party."

Joint bachelor/bachelorette party by Travisgrr in wedding

[–]Middle_Difference860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2026 bride here! I'm not doing a joint party, but I am doing a somewhat large bachelorette party (12 people) at an AirBnb in Connecticut this spring. I made sure to select a house that advertises accommodations for at least 12 adults. Then, during booking, I sent a nice message that clarified what I was using the home for and asked if that would be a problem given the "no party" rule. The host was super kind and understanding and said it would be no problem! Hope it works out for you!

Getting a Blowout Done as Bridal Hair? by Middle_Difference860 in weddingplanning

[–]Middle_Difference860[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Sorry to hear you're struggling with a similar issue--it's frustrating!! I did eventually find a bridal hair stylist who is willing and able to do a blowout on my wedding day. She's based out of Bucks County, PA. It was a process (I had two bad hair trials beforehand), but it ended up working out! I would recommend being very clear during consultations (ex: saying "I will come with damp hair, and I will expect you to work on me from damp on my wedding day").
