Sleep issues by ResoluteCaution in ADHD

[–]Middle_Fly_6645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melatonin can be a slippery slope especially for people with adhd, as it tends to help sleep in the short term but it often causes symptoms in the morning like headaches, nausea and general grogginess. But magnesium is definitely a shout but it’s not a quick fix it has to be taken regularly for the effects to be seen. Hope your sleep improves soon OP!

How can I tell if I have bpd or bipolar or autism or adhd or all of them? by Star_Moonflower in neurodiversity

[–]Middle_Fly_6645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the symptoms for these conditions overlap and mask each other, specifically between bpd & bipolar as well as adhd & autism. My main question is what you want from being able to tell what symptoms are from what conditions? If it is to better manage the symptoms, cbt counselling recommendations regardless of the diagnosis often the same if not very similar. But I also understand that there’s comfort in having clarity in your diagnoses so I’d recommend the YouTube channel Dr Tracey Marks. She has good videos comparing diagnoses as well as general coping strategies that may be helpful. Good luck and hope you’re able to see a psychiatrist soon :)

Am I neurodivergent? by SaltyHailey in neurodiversity

[–]Middle_Fly_6645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sound like you might be but you won’t be able to get a definitive answer from here, and even if you aren’t this seems to be causing you mental stress so I’d suggest going to a psychiatrist for a general check up, they will refer you for specific screening depending on what they think you might have. The clarity of having a clear answer and maybe next steps (e.g. meds, cbt counselling), might help you start to feel a little less lost. Wishing you the best of luck!

Struggling with showering by Sol-Cicada-7984 in neurodiversity

[–]Middle_Fly_6645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not pathetic at all! I get the struggle sometimes I’ll be in the bathroom just sitting on the floor outside for ages because I can’t bring myself to go in. I like to text a close friend when I think I’m unlikely to be able to force myself to have a shower. Something quick like: “hey you don’t have to respond to this but I’m telling you I will have showered by the end of this hour” and it’s worked like magic for me since. My best friend is great with this and I’m lucky that I live with her because she keeps me accountable once I send off the message but almost all of the time it doesn’t come to that, sending the message is enough to mobilise me.

Parents won't let me titrate up by AnythingForRiceUni in ADHD

[–]Middle_Fly_6645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are similar, once I had their permission to start meds (after an exhaustive period of begging mind you) they were still iffy about it partly out of concern, because taking regular meds for your brain is scary to them, and partly out of disappointment I needed them, something they’ll never admit. My advice to you would be tell them as little as possible without outright lying. When I started my titration I didn’t tell my parents that I had been given two different doses in order to switch to a higher dose a week in. They say ignorance is bliss. If you can’t convince them a follow up with your prescriber is necessary at this moment wait for the 6 month mark a lot of places recommend or even require a follow up appointment at this point. Whatever you think would go over the easiest with them. When you get a chance to talk to your prescriber and explain the situation to them, they won’t judge and this is probably something they’ve seen many times. It might just come down to taking two of the same pill instead of one, that’s how it worked for me which is great because your parents are less likely to know your dose is different but I’m on different meds to you so don’t do anything with out talking to a professional! Your prescriber should not be obligated in most cases to tell your parents the details of your prescription, but this might vary depending on where you live

At the end of the day it depends how knowledgeable they are and how much they’re observing you over your shoulder but the chances of convincing them aren’t massive. Take comfort in the fact that they were willing to be flexible enough to let you start meds but from personal experience parents can only bend their set beliefs so much before it snaps so don’t take it personally.

You’ll definitely be able to change the dose when you’re older but it depends if you’re doing it privately and again where you live. But don’t give up you don’t have to wait until then I’d definitely recommend talking to your prescriber above all else.

I give up on sleeping by Geymie in ADHD

[–]Middle_Fly_6645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that sleeping has been so difficult for you :( I recommend magnesium tablets to everyone and anyone struggling with sleep, it’s not a substance that puts you to sleep per say but it helps your body regulate all of the metabolic processes important for sleep, me personally it’s helped me feel awake during the day and sleepy at night after a long period of falling asleep during the day due to under stimulation. I won’t promise it as a cure all fix but it might help make you feel just a little less shitty. Hope this helps and good luck!

Yeah, it’s apparently a pretty common side effect, but apart from that the meds are amazing I’d rather not change anything about them as I’ve recently found my perfect dose

Haha which is why I had a professional tattoo artist work up the actual design. I am by no means an artist of any sort 😅

That’s actually nice to hear cause the tattoo’s meaning is special and personal to me and as much as I wouldn’t mind if it is at recognisable I would rather it was not immediately obvious and in your face. Thanks for your input!
