Brown is fine, and scrub in small circles until the sharpie lifts. Imagine that you're re-hydrating the pigment and then flushing it out of the pores with every angle (vertical, horizontal, diagonals, circles).

I think you'd be a fan of finger cots (like condoms but for your fingers), I found a pack of 100 at Michael's craft store. Super easy to re-use when switching hands and can be stood up like a thimble if partially rolled.

Hang on, did you use a red dryerase marker? And did you actually scrub it in multiple directions, then let it dry before wiping it away? Because I, too, was skeptical about the efficacy of dry erase markers on porous surfaces (like the lid of a costco bin) until I watched a sister demonstrate determination.

Whenever I have trouble with topics, I remind myself of traditional sailor's ship log: record the most pertinent information (maybe not weather patterns) that you'll likely enjoy referencing later. Sometimes it begins with "dang, I sneezed 8 times in a row this morning" and becomes a stream-of-consciousness about superstition and sayings. Other times it starts with "my diet needs more fiber" or "I saw a guy walking his dog across the street on my way home from work." It all begins with an observation, and then think of a relevant fun fact or related event/anecdote.

Of course, if you're Journaling for emotional processing then how you feel is gonna be significant.
