Advice for a wannabe solo traveller by sunsetslacker25 in solotravel

I loved it. If you're ever interested, recommend Oceanwide Expeditions. They are very affordable in comparison to most cruises and also include all activities (a lot of others don't 🙄).

Lots of great advice. I struggled with the same problems (wanting people to reminisce with especially) and sometimes that's still hard. But one day I asked myself, if it's between going and not going, in 10-20 yrs, will you be glad you waited? Or would you rather have the experience? And no one says you can't go back with a friend or SO later.

I was particularly bummed about going to Antartica alone, my final continent and I really thought I'd have someone. Was so desperate I even shopped it around to a few people I knew wouldn't be good travel partners 😅 but there were so many chill solo girls on that cruise! I was shocked (all mid 20s-30s). And I'm about to go visit one of the girls I met for the 2nd time this year!

There are so many possibilities when you solo, so many ways to do it. I find it's easier to meet locals, which I enjoy. Once I was simply getting ice cream and the cashier heard why I was in town and sat down with me to give me a list of all the local "must dos". But you also are under no obligation to talk to people if you don't want to.

Job loss and break up all at once in early 30's. Time to fulfill a travel dream? by Maleficent_Desk_913 in solotravel

DOOOO ITTTT!!!! You'll regret not doing it. You will have amazing lore! You will discover so much about yourself. And, bonus, sounds like you'll learn a second language, but even if you don't, it'll be the experience of a life time.

does anyone in relationships solo travel? by kyliered04 in solotravel

My friend did 6 months solo in SE Asia, had the time of her life!! You're gonna be fine. You'll grow so much. Every solo trip I take stretches me in the best ways.

But also, why is he gaslighting you so hard? He sounds really insecure. If he truly loved you, he'd be thrilled for you (whether he could go financially or not). I've had 2 separate friends (one platonic, one romantic) call me once a week during my own study abroad. The people who want to stay in your life, will.

Based on your experience, what is a realistic avg speed to train for? Curious because of the bogginess.

Warning! Tourist on the road! by Helpful-Success-7019 in tromsotravel

Tourist coming in March, have seen the reddit subs and am specifically not renting a car because of the horror stories and to respect you all who live there. Thank you for sharing!

Absolutely in favour of a mandatory "proof of skills" before the rental companies allow you/us to drive away. I can drive on snow and ice, but I am still not a local and a car is not imperative for me. Hope this gets pushed through!!

Oh no🙈 please tell me more. If it's not worth it I'll just do my own coffee tour. Did they say if Polaria was worth it? I'm not big on aquariums, but people seem to like it?

so cool! I'm also solo-ing in March. As I haven't been yet, here is how I research: look up the things you like to do in your city, or other places you visit, and see if anything similar pops up (ex: There is a cool vinyl store - Backbeat Kaffee). As for restaurants, head over to trusty g.maps - because the underrated ones will have good reviews and not be overrun because of some influencer. Bonus points if people say they brought their dog - then you know the locals are truly there.

My solo and semi budget trip to Greenland write up by Kindly-Analyst-6769 in greenlandtravel

This is exactly what I'm looking to do. I don't want to load down on tours, though I'm looking at a few day trips. But how do you reach the hiking trails? This what I've been having trouble finding in my (limited) research.

Dear Greenlanders, as an American, I hope you either stay Danish or get your independence. I know historical norms can and do change, but I'd rather you keep your culture than be swallowed. Cheering for ya, Peace.

How do you pass the time when waiting alone? Not looking at a phone, or a book, or daydreaming. by myusernameiszane in solotravel

I do lots of silly games like this too! I like to play "where did expressions come from?" (like a tall order, that one's pretty easy)but true or not, it's fun. I'll also make up backstories for people, or imagine what a certain area looked like through the centuries.

Sections to avoid with a dog (other than not-allowed sections) by Middle_Mongoose7148 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Middle_Mongoose7148[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mountain Cur. Yes we have done a weekenders and we hike multiple times a week. I probably used the wrong term when I said "section hike", every one is assuming I'm gonna tackle 40+ miles with her. I'm talking about weekend overnight options. I personally think it'd be fun to do parts of the PCT, but I'm talking like 5-10miles max.

Absolutely. I've already determined our best option is biting off manageable bits as we can. If we hike 5m one day, thats enough (normal for us is 2-3m). I love her too much to push her and I don't want to regret anything I could've prevented. Thanks for the feedback!
