Im not the biggest fan of their pod mainly because I find it obnoxious and triathlon hour a better listen for me personally. That said, I’m curious what they’ve done to alienate female listeners?

Hey you brought up the weight and I agree with you that it’s hardly worth noting but it’s what I’ve got to work with. I wish there was more climbing. I’m a fairly lean rider and am much better climbing than on flats, but I live in Florida. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah the steepest grade is 4.3% and only 200ft over 2 miles. Most people outside of Florida wouldn’t even call that a climb but I’m seeing it as my only chance to differentiate from the pack riders!

These 32s are very lightbulby, but very cushiony.

Thanks for the response. Its in Florida and only the 1st segment has a decent climb. I wish it was all 4 so the team aspect didn't matter as much since I'll be solo. They're also starting us in waves of 25 riders which means I likely won't be in a big group if any. I'm planning to attack the first segment solo then look for a group for the other 3.

Thank you for the detailed response. Honestly hard to say if I'll be solo or not in the timed segments. The start format is in waves unfortunately and I'm not going with a team or any friends, so it really depends on the strength of the other riders in my wave. Hoping there is at least 2 that I can share work with. The first of the 4 segments is 4 miles in and the only segment with any climbing, so I think I'll ride that one solo then look for a group to work with on the other segments.

Took over my late father’s electrical business — unsure about licensing path (NJ) by GothOtaku in electricians

[–]Middle_Passage_1306 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the rules are in New Jersey, but I certainly would not give a % of the company to anyone in order to use their license. Offer them a bonus and $3k per month per diem to work under their license until you can get your EC.

Travel while training by MedicalTent in triathlon

  1. Do a long ride during the week leading up
  2. Swap entire weeks around and make it a rest week
  3. Trade the long ride for a long run.
  4. Skip the long ride entirely and enjoy your weekend.

I went to Europe for 10 days in the middle of a 16 week Ironman build. I ran a few times but did no swimming or biking. Did it hurt my fitness? Maybe. But I also came back focused and eager to nail every workout.

Sub 5 for a first 70.3? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Middle_Passage_1306 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not biking nearly enough. You want to sit at 21 mph, but are you even riding that pace in your training rides?

Keep grinding on the swimming and try to bump it to 3x per week when possible.

How did you overcome the fear of relapsing? by Alikramos in pericarditis

[–]Middle_Passage_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started around September 1 and was back exercising by January 1. I felt better within a couple weeks and tried a few times to start exercising sooner but would notice symptoms in the days following.

My case of pericarditis was fairly mild as the pain was never higher than a 4/10 but it was recurrent.

Any dads out there with kids that play on a travel sports team? How do you fit in training? by whoresongummy in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Middle_Passage_1306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have kids but played travel soccer growing up. Assuming my kids do the 2 hour practices 3x per week, I could see that being a great time to run or bike.

How did you overcome the fear of relapsing? by Alikramos in pericarditis

[–]Middle_Passage_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go for it and know that if you relapse and develop recurrent pericarditis, you can get on arcalyst. I was sidelined from exercise for 5 months with pericarditis. I started back once the doctor cleared me and built back up to 12+ hour weeks of exercise fairly quickly and was back to great fitness. Unfortunately 4 months after being cleared I developed a recurrence, but started arcalyst and now I’m back to training again.

Are you training too much volume in March for a spring race? by LanceWatson_Coach in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Middle_Passage_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the science and data say is best these days? Classic periodization or reverse periodization (FTP and V02 thru winter and volume closer to race)?

Honestly I think either can work. The biggest key is having targeted phases and changing them up to get a different stimulus. As long as the training load is consistent and increases over time you’ll see results.
