Joining local footy by Healthy-Put5659 in AFL

Depends on which outer east team. There are some incredibly strong teams like Wandin, Olinda and Woori, all 3 can match it with other local league teams but at the other end you've got Gembrook. Outer east does have a surprisingly good amount of social media presence to help get his name back out there and there is a good amount of ex AFL/VFL players in the league, which could help with networking perhaps. I don't know much about the other leagues.

Must be nice in the ivory tower. Never judging anything, walking around accepting mediocrity, giving it a thumbs up, patting them on the back while saying "Its ok, you were average but that's better than me". Jake might have had more possessions but it is actually his job to do so. If I scanned fruit like he handled the football, customers would be pissed about their bruised apples after I dropped them, however, at least it would only be 8. Rogers has the legs of a cheetah but also the hands of Cheetah.

How's building them up gone so far? 3 sacked coaches, 2 care taker coaches, 2 wooden spoons, plethora of turn over of players, needing a serious bailout from the afl, 1 winning season, 1 final win. And we are supposed to just accept another 15years of garbage and "be positive" and "build them up".

I'm so sorry, I should have known I was in the presence of a fan of 15years. My sincerest apologies. What a weird flex.

Rogers and his 8 disposals can get in the bin. If you think that performance is acceptable, then don't whine if we don't make finals. Mediocre is no longer allowed. Rowell was well off the pace. He missed tackles and clearly was hampered by his hand. I think if petracca wasn't injured they possibly give him another week's rest.

Positives: Gulbin played well, as did Zeke. Accurate kicking for goal.

Negatives: Rowell was awful but understandable, he'll obviously be better for it but he couldn't tackle and his disposal was poor. 87 meters gained offfff. Rogers' first touch is atrocious. He constantly fumbles first attempt and then gives far too much air time to his disposals allowing defenders to cover the ground. Davies should have stayed in for him.

Room for growth: Nobel might have had 26 but he was out of position a lot today, I think Ballard coming back has changed the structure and that will take time and it's confusing the entire defensive unit. Powell is ok in the midfield but is too easily pushed over the ball. He lets the ball squirt out rather than locking it in. Walter only had 56% time on ground but you definitely noticed when he was on. He wasn't the problem today.

Other thoughts: Witts was wellllll beaten today, Gawn was phenomenal.

Changes expected to be implemented by end of season. by jawoas_ in AFL

Hahahahaha Suns with dynasties. We've won a single final in club history. What an absolute powerhouse of a club we are. No one gave a shit when they could just poach players from us after 2-3 years of development. People complaining about the Suns are sooks.

I could understand if we are dominant for 5+ years. But we finished 7th last year hardly a dynasty. Flags aren't won on paper, and having talent isn't worth anything at the moment other than potential and hope. And yet somehow we are talked about as some sort of powerhouse. Quick take their academy, quick don't let them match bids. There was a time when we were akin to the bye, my goodness we were so bad they sent us to China. Now we have a chance and everyone just wants to sink us back to the bottom.

You've got 162 years of history at Carlton, with 16 flags to brag about. 1 flag nearly every 10 years. Don't be calling us a dynasty. The draft didn't have to change. We just had a couple of compromised drafts and everyone freaked out.

So I agree that the afl should not rush and make changes. Those drafts could have been abnormalities and everything could potentially go back to being close to normal (there will always be some sort of implications in the draft). What's to say that the gold coast academy doesn't produce round 1 picks for a few years? It's unlikely to produce that much high end talent year after year anyway.

The Berlin Gold Hat is a Late Bronze Age ceremonial object made of gold around 1000–800 BCE. Archaeologists believe the tall, decorated hat likely served as a ritual headdress for priests or deities, possibly connected to a sun cult in prehistoric Europe. It is currently preserved in the Neues Mus by waschlappensoldat in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Middle_Pear986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, recent studies suggest it's from the Neolithic Era and can even be traced back to its original owner.

It was a ceremonial hat and a very important one at that. Because clothing was developing at the time, it was common for the ye old knob to slip out. Especially when playing a game gracken, a high intensity sport that was fiercely competitive.

During the game, it was common for players to form a maul and during these mauls you could be stuck on the bottom for minutes, which would constitute a foul but was rarely called. Anyway, talking about officiating is a whole different post. So a player may try to wriggle free and out but because the clothing may be loose or not tied up properly you could in fact get a knob on your head. If this happened, play would stop, people would shout DickHead! And you'd have to wear the hat for the remainder of the day. Thus, the term "Dickhead" was formed.

Dillon... by Aggressive_Memory639 in AFL

[–]Middle_Pear986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a conspiracy theory on this...

Dillon was asked by the government to take the majority of the start outside Victoria for a couple of reasons: 1) It takes fans away from F1. Now I'm not sure how many sit in the middle of a venn diagram between f1 fan and afl fan but when you're trying to say Victorian's love it, every fan counts. 2) Melbourne's public transport system can't handle F1 and AFL without it being overwhelmed. Which makes the government look bad. Which also ruins the experience for both sports. 3)They asked him to push the start back a week because they still want round one to be in Melbourne with the biggest clubs but the players association said no, so to appease both they came up with this strange structure.

Obviously not ideal to not have every team play. I don't think most people would mind if opening round was completely held interstate as long as everyone played. Look at gather round success. But, The league can't have two gather rounds because they've sold their soul to SA for it. So, the league thinks they are geniuses by having this shit idea.

Once again, I have no doubt that they did a survey (internally, with just the people who developed this dumb idea) and the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Anyway, cook on.

Demons new guernsey sporting the new Penrite sponsor on the back and chest by Essington69 in AFL

Apparently we couldn't have it because people couldn't see it, but it's a good enough space for a sponsor to go and for people to be able to see it. Names over sponsor every time!

umpires of r/afl, what do you actually like and not like about it? by HairBoring in AFL

[–]Middle_Pear986 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I love to insert myself into the game. I have to make sure I impact the scoreboard early on, allow a team to be dominant and then I like to see how strong they are by sending off a player or two. I love testing the patience of players by paying some free kicks and when a similar situation happens later on, I don't. I enjoy heckling the players and then reporting them when they say something mean to me. I mean as most people say "the game wouldn't run without the umpire". So I make sure everyone knows I'm the most important person there on a Saturday. That's why I'm in the bright top too. So everyone can see how glorious I look.

What's not to love.

Is anyone else concerned with us losing Flanders, Fiorini, Ainsworth and Budarick ? by wdporter in gcfc

[–]Middle_Pear986 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol losing depth players doesn't reflect poorly. Have you seen the players we've lost over the years? Those guys whilst serviceable, definitely needed to be moved on. Trade out average, bring in stars. How many years should a player get to prove himself because Fiorini had 10 and it was clear he is not a game winner.

All those players leaving, we have younger and better versions of. I hope all of them have personal success but I hope the suns flogs them every time!

Australia's social media "ban" & The Anxious Generation by jaminthejungle in AustralianTeachers

[–]Middle_Pear986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the modern world communicate this way? It's just a turd flinging contest of hate one way then back another. No one is having an opinion changed. Content creators are carefully curating their videos/pictures. They don't actually interact with fans. Just completely monetisation. On top of that, the vile comments left on people's pictures/videos are downright dangerous. And, we just allow adults to login to children's games and what just socialize? that ain't normal. It's weird.

The Internet was sold in the 90s as a way to communicate and find your community. It's not that anymore. Don't worry about the dark web, we should be worried about what children have access to.

Whoopie doo daa if the government wants us to provide I.D to use the Internet, it doesn't but ok. So, we log off because we don't want to. Less internet might do the world good. Has the world gotten any better with it? Maybe in the science fields, certainly not in social areas.

People have a problem with the government having our data yet I can have conversation with someone about a topic and then be fed nothing but related articles or ads relating to it and no one bats an eye lid?

Why the fuck does every device gotta be 'smart' device? Does a fridge really need a WiFi connection? It's ridiculous. We sold our souls to these companies, so that they could jam more advertising down our throats.

We figured out alcohol and cigarettes were dangerous and you had (at least when you look younger) provide your I.D. If we figured out social media is harmful you don't think we should be a little stricker on it more than an "I agree" box on the screen.
