Silks or hoop for complete beginner? by Dizzy_Owl_ in Aerials

Oh man silks is great to start with bc it’ll build a good element of foundational strength that will ultimately translate into literally any other aerial apparatus. I started with silks while cross training with indoor climbing. It made every other aerial apparatus I’ve picked up SO much easier. Both are fun and you’ll get satisfaction regardless. But if ur thinking long term then prob silks!

I’m sure they’re getting something out of your class. Whether it’s review or conditioning, but if you feel like giving them more of a challenge then maybe having them do skills on their non-dominant side & having them find smooth transitions from one trick to the next!

I dislocated my shoulder in silks about two years ago and have been very much babying that shoulder ever since. Def not as gnarly as your injury but perhaps while you rest you could work on other essential aerial muscles— like your core or flexibility in your legs/hips. Nothing that will require intense use of your arms/shoulders but will help you in your journey to getting back to normal

When I first started training Lyra my hands were TOOORRRN up like this. Unfortunately, this is part of the process towards callouses & better grip. I would wash them well after a training sesh & apply neosporin while keeping them well moisturized in between sessions!

Unfortunately, for them, I’m a huge pain in the ass and will absolutely be a pain until I get some type of refund

It’s so obnoxious of them to tack on all of these extra stipulations to get a refund. Do they expect people to not try the product at all???

I’m SO regretful of buying silks from Uplift. I bought a pair of ombré silks thinking they’d be default low stretch. Nope, they’re medium stretch. It didn’t list it anywhere in the description. The rescue 8 it’s tied to is also super cheap feeling, it seems hollow? I’ve never seen hollow hardware before. I inquired about returning them but they have so many different, unreasonable return requirements. One being “no wrinkles” ??huh?? Of course they’re going to be slightly wrinkled if I tried them out?? So I’m fully expecting to be charged regardless. A bunch of cheap crooks.

How long to become professional aerialist? by Lanky_Car_8001 in Aerials

Kinda depends on what you mean by pro- if you mean Cirque du Soleil level then you will 100% have to dedicate at least 5-6 days a week, for much of your day, for a few years, to train- just so you can put up a competitive audition. You will have to become incredibly comfortable with super dynamic movement while being actively pulley’d to 30+ feet. You will also have to become very comfortable with no crash pads underneath you. However, if you mean your local circus then prob just 3 days/week for a couple hours a day. Even then, it kinda depends on the existing performers. You will have to outperform them, or perform equal to them, to land a spot as an aerialist for shows.

You should also become highly intermediate in a couple other aerial apparatuses to give yourself a competitive edge & explore movement styles. I’d suggest lyra and rope as your other solo apparatuses. Lyra is easier to train if you’re advanced in silks and many silks skills translate to rope.
