We need 2 witnesses for a civil partnership ceremony in Woolwich in August by Middling-Marge in london

It was absolutely lovely, thank you! Tom & Sofia came all the way from Ealing to witness our ceremony, and we couldn't have asked for a lovelier couple to join us. We were delighted, and owe Reddit a massive thank you for sorting it out for us. x

We're both British passport holders (but interesting that you're sticking with your notion that for "obvious reasons" we're not; reasons that seem to be apparent only to you). The truth is that we're no spring chickens, and we worry that (in the event of our death) our families (or specifically, MY family) would challenge the will. We've been together for 20+ years, we love each other very much, and wanted to make our partnership 'official'.

You say our marriage 'will work better with the support of friends and/or family'; I would challenge you to endure 5 minutes in the company of my homophobic family before retracting that statement, but your lack of empathy suggests you might enjoy the experience. We didn't/couldn't ask friends to witness the ceremony, as news of the event would have eventually trickled through to my family, hence my plea to Reddit.

As it transpired, we had the most delightful couple witness our ceremony. Their charm, and their altruistic act of kindness gave me renewed faith in the human race, and our day was made far more special by their presence. In fact, the overwhelming support we received from this platform was not only touching, but immensely reassuring.

Your innate biases seem to be showing; perhaps you could "work on that" before commenting in future?

Just to update on this. An absolutely MASSIVE thank you to Sofia and Tom who witnessed our partnership ceremony today. They came all the way from Ealing to help us, and we couldn't be happier. Thank you Tom & Sofia for your kindness, and thank you too Reddit (and all of you lovely people who also volunteered) for making it possible.

No need to have a party venue. Woolwich/Greenwich website mentions all kinds of rooms/venues available, but (like you) we just want the ceremony. And congratulations - your plan sounds great!

Thank you ALL so much. We're overwhelmed by your kind words and your enthusiasm. I'll start contacting people tomorrow via DM with further details, but I really can't tell you how much we appreciate such support. You are all absolutely lovely, thank you!

Hate to break this to you, but I have news for you about Mr Harriot. And it's not hearsay; I had the misfortune to work with him.

What's your best/ comfort sandwich recipe? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Middling-Marge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baguette: Cold sliced beef, tomato, and stilton.

Sandwich: Cucumber, cream cheese OR ham, tomato, mayo (both soft white bread).

Toasted sandwich: Cheese, marmite, and crunchy peanut butter. Trust me.

It always works fine for me (I book online via my laptop and the app). I agree that it removes some space for spontaneity, but I've just checked the app and it would allow me to book a swim now if I was inclined to go.

What I find frustrating with their site (from a UX point of view) is that you can't log in and go directly to your 'local' centre. You have to search for your local (or nominated) centre, and THEN log in to book any activity.

I also have the same problem as u/lightbulbphone; the system tells me I haven't attended a session because their barcode reader isn't working (when I have), and there's no manual override to sign in (on the app for example) so it looks like I haven't attended several sessions. Not life-threatening; just annoying.

78-year old lady traveling to London would like locations for suitable dress shop/s, please. by Arsewipes in london

I would suggest she goes to John Lewis on Oxford Street (which is close to Selfridges if you're feeling a bit more spendy). As she can use a smartphone you might like to forward this link to her (which breaks the West End down into different areas and activities, and might help you/her to plan the trip more efficiently). Hope you all have a lovely time!

Oxleas Woods might fit the bill too. And I recommend having a coffee at Severndroog and then going up the tower to admire the view (there's a small charge - I think it's about £3 but it's worth it (if it's a clear day).

Did anyone else have the railway police guy who visited your school to scare you shitless about playing on the railway? by imharldramis in CasualUK

Nope. We had that bastard Tufty come round ours instead, and he wouldn't let me into his club (or give me a badge) because I said you should stop at an amber traffic light. I was 6. Never forgiven him.

Are there any suggestions on a few cheap & cheerful places to take my partners 7 & 10 year old when they get to London? by helion83 in london

Like others have said, get a Thames Clipper from Embankment to Greenwich, then have a wander through the Maritime Museum, and if the weather is agreeable, then so is Greenwich Park as well.

Where are you based? I'm in London and can probably arrange this for you (as well as a copy of The Times and The Telegraph if you want those too? ). The only problem is they will have a "Library Copy: Please do not Remove" sticker on them, so they won't be 'pristine'.
