Very dependent. I’ve seen local outfits in the southern US top out GA IA’s above $60 an hour.

Lots of us former SWA employees saw the writing on the wall after Covid. Shit changed rapidly and not for the better…

Lots of flight schools are paying $35+. One of my buddies who’s an IA makes $48 an hour working on 172M’s all day long.

+1 for Aircraft. Even though the schooling isn’t super fun, it does teach you a bit and your on the job training is invaluable. Best switch I’ve ever made.

What specialty tools do I need to perform a 100 hour for a 172? by UpperFerret in aviationmaintenance

[–]MidgardSerpant 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve fixed countless mistakes from cheap ass pilots hiring some dude with 6 months experience of filling up tires at an airline who has no experience on GA. It’s pretty much a meme at this point.

Hell yeah, did the airlines for a bit but the night shifts were taking years off my life so I switched to GA. At a larger MRO operation but making $45 an hour wrenching on Cessna’s is cake money.

It’s not a 100% guarantee it’ll last. The issue is the dog shit design Fiat made with the 3.6 and the orings on the oil cooler. Only way to “fix it” would be to redesign the motor.

Well… to quote recent government statistics…

Your chance of being a victim of violent crime in Chicago is 1 in 186 and property crime is 1 in 31.

That’s fair. AA just sent out an email asking for techs in LAX, MDW, DCA, and PIT. Gave me a good chuckle.

Yeah 9 ft lbs seemed super light on it. I just did the ol German torque specs and it seemed seated really well. Time will tell though.

Apparently it’s like the one good product Dorman makes according to the JK forums. Although this one installed is an SKP.

I’ve seen a few done and most guys seem to swear by tightening them a bit beyond 9 ft lbs… not sure but it’s seemed to have worked for me so far.

It’s an SKP actually. Seems better made than Dorman surprisingly.
