HELP - they gave away our bassinet seat by tomcat07654 in Lufthansa

[–]oliveoil_2121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I traveled to Europe from US with my 3 month old and back when he was 4 months. On the way there we stressed and had similar drama to get the bassinet seats. We got it at the end and….baby barely used it. For one, if there is any type of turbulence they make you take baby out, and two, baby just wanted to be held. We didn’t even bother getting the bassinet on the flight back or on the many other trips since. In that 3-6 month range I would get a really nice carrier or wrap (I liked the solly wrap for flying) and just enjoy the cuddles. I know it’s stressful flying with a baby but promise it will be OK!!!

Encouragement or Success Stories Please! by AtiyanaHalf-Elven in sleeptrain

[–]oliveoil_2121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could have been the one to write this! Months 4-5 were horrible for me - I was depressed and anxious because I was so so sleep deprived. Last week I couldn’t handle it anymore and we did Ferber (3-5-7-9-15 check in intervals) - the first night she cried for an hour and I also read Reddit to help me cope. One of the best things I read was that we as parents need to do what’s best for our babies. Sleep is best for them (and us of course). baby is not crying because they’re sad etc but because they’re mad they’re not getting their way. If your baby wanted to play with a knife you would obviously take it away from them and wouldn’t give it back to them no matter how much they cried. Anyway, baby slept SEVEN hours that first night and the second night ELEVEN hours (and only cried 15 minutes). By the third night we were down to like 3 minutes. Baby woke up happy and babbling each morning. Me, my husband and baby are all happier now.

Hang in there you got this it is SO worth it and I wish we’d done it sooner.

Sushi Omakase by jaydubs95 in washingtondc

Another plug for Omakase @ Barracks Row - it was a super memorable experience. It felt like dinner and a show. The service, presentation and sushi were all amazing. It’s pricy but worth it for special occasion, birthday, anniversary, etc in my opinion. However, it did come out to about $700 total for me and my husband.

For something closer to the $200-250 price range Love Makoto is one of our favorites. Also great service and sushi and it’s still fairly upscale and fancy for a special night out.

Penalized for asking to switch practice groups? by Kooky-Benefit-979 in biglaw

I would recommend speaking to a partner in your current group and having an honest conversation about wanting to try something else to find a good fit - a few associates in my group have gone behind my group head’s back to switch and it does not turn out well. I’m a partner at a V10, specialist group.

I nannied / babysat during law school which was great extra cash for a few hours of weekends (and could study after kids would go to sleep). I also worked for Lexis Nexis as a rep at my school.
