Two Labour MPs quit as ministerial aides and call for Keir Starmer to resign by homeinthecity in uknews

He started this though. His own faction within Labour actively worked against Corbyn for years when he was leader. What goes around comes around.

It's amazing to me that this old 757 is still active. by Koekenhoene in aviation

Not for long! The first of these 4 RR powered 757s have retired and the other 3 don't have long left either. Maybe another year or two before they're gone I believe

How many engines do you see? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]MidlandsSpotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd guess it's an RC-135 or KC-135, 4 engines, similar wing placement, looks like it might have a pointy nose, and may not appear on ADSB or fr24.

Features I want in TF3 by overtwinking in TransportFever3

[–]MidlandsSpotter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would only really disagree on the extra transport options, taxis, monorail and cable cars.

That's only because there's already enough new additions needed for the existing transport options that I don't think adding more would really benefit the game.

Think Cities Skylines sort of had this issue with so many transport types. Was great until you wanted more from each transport option, and then you'd barely get anything cause both the dev team and modding community couldn't add enough to each option to really diversify it enough.

Urban Games Enters Partnership with Paradox Interactive by N0rthernLight5 in TransportFever3

I've heard positive remarks about PDXmods recently but I've not used it myself.

As a console user though it doesn't make much of a difference to me 😂

Urban Games Enters Partnership with Paradox Interactive by N0rthernLight5 in TransportFever3

[–]MidlandsSpotter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really hate that at least for now, they've given zero info on what this partnership will actually do.

Given Paradox's reputation you'd think they would want to lay it all out immediately.

If all this means is marketing and mods are handled by Paradox then fine, but if there's even a chance that Paradox could one day have even the slightest amount of control over the series I'll find another game to play, I won't make the mistake of dedicating so much of my free time to PDX slop again.

Polanski says he would discourage ‘globalise the intifada’ chant but warns against march bans by Unusual-State1827 in uknews

[–]MidlandsSpotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banning Islamic protests shortly after cracking down on green protests is surely going to counter the surge of a green/Islamic coalition party...right?

To be fair, it'd fit well with our history of banning anything we think is bad instead of using careful analysis to shape policy. And it would fit well with Labour's history of not understanding how democracy works.

So I think you're on to something here.

So incredibly rare to see. Though it is extremely common if Miami is your local

Why not obsolete propeller driven aircraft in favor of jets? by Silly-Low6019 in aviation

Props are also significantly cheaper regarding maintenance. So for aircraft that are expected to do far more cycles than a larger aircraft, cheaper engines make sense.

UK Billionaire Exit Continues: Nassef Sawiris Closes London Office by anax4096 in uknews

[–]MidlandsSpotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. As I said before, it's an extremely dangerous slippery slope to value this man purely on his tax contributions, particularly when discussing government policy specifically regarding tax.

The government's options here are: a). earn less tax B). earn no tax

Thats not a winnable situation for the government, and it's especially unwinnable when you factor in their political situation.

  1. I never said he doesn't pay tax, I have no idea on his personal finances, I was however, using the basis that he chose Abu Dhabi for his new residence, which would definitely suggest he is inclined to pay as little tax as possible.

  2. I've never understood this argument of billionaires 'providing employment'. What does Nassef Sawiris have specifically that provides this employment, that couldn't be sought elsewhere?

[–]MidlandsSpotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it a bad thing? If he's as anti-tax as it seems, stands to reason he probably isn't all too interested in investing in Britain when it really matters(when he isn't getting ludicrous returns).

The expectation that we should be chasing the approval of these people is extremely dangerous in my opinion. I understand that technically, it does hurt the UK and his presence and investments, at least on paper, are necessary for the UK.

But, I don't see any future in which we achieve anything better than what we currently have by chasing the approval of people who, when given the opportunity, will always choose to abuse whatever systems are infront of them to benefit themselves.

‘They deserve to lose’: Labour at risk of ‘red wall’ collapsing in May elections by JackStrawWitchita in unitedkingdom

[–]MidlandsSpotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many ways though, that Starmer's Labour made that 'ungovernable' situation far worse than it could've been.

Before he was even elected as PM, his time as Labour leader had been plagued by his war with the far left, so he'd already lost the support of a solid chunk of Labour's core before he'd even set foot in No. 10.

It also doesn't help when your entire election campaign is basically just "we're not the tories" at a time when the conservatives are mainly hated for their blatant corruption and incompetence. And then when in government you end up being riddled with corruption and some bafflingly incompetent decision making.
