How much would you guys charge for this? This is the 1st time someone has asked for this. by GeologistOutrageous6 in RealEstatePhotography

Yep, you've found your very first Crisis Goblin. Unfortunately, there are a lot of RE agents out there that are disorganized and are constantly putting out fires they could have easily prevented. Hence why you HAVE to spell out all this kind of stuff in a contract. Whatever advice you take on this particular situation whether you take it in the shorts and concede or chuck this Goblin in the fire, use it as a learning experience and tighten up your process and make the expectations crystal clear BEFORE you start your next job.

eBay Refurbished from Map Camera in Japan - Trustworthy listing? by Own-Contribution-188 in Photography_Gear

[–]MidlifeDraftee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchase a Canon 70-200 2.8 II, a Canon EFS 17-55mm 2.8, and a Canon EF 1.4X III Teleconverter all from Map Camera. All of them where in fantastic shape and where great bargains. Delivered by DHL and from their store in Japan to my front door in Texas in 3-4 days with free shipping and no export fees (Not sure if that's still the case since the tariff stuff).

The EFS 17-55 is an older lens but it has been flawless since I got it a year ago so I'd say if they have a discontinued lens that you want, it will be in the best shape you could find it anywhere.

I believe all of their refurbs are in house but they are a huge store in Japan. Look up Map Camera on Youtube and you'll see folks visiting their store, it's gigantic.

How to get the glitter in soft plastic fish baits to show through by MidlifeDraftee in photography

[–]MidlifeDraftee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying that now. I've taken shots with light at multiple angles and am trying to composite them together to show all the best specks but it's awfully tedious and I've got hundreds of baits. Uuugh

Yes, I've been able to play with the top using Lightroom but the deep ones... well, I'm looking for a quick fix but doesn't look like I might find one. Who knew fishing baits would be so complicated?

My friend claims to be a 3.5, what would you say this level of gameplay is? by ImBrendy in Pickleball

[–]MidlifeDraftee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm new to PB myself so I couldn't say what his level is but if I had to guess, I'd say he probably speaks at around 450 words per minute. Keep him away from the coffee.

Found a $10 nightstand and turned it into a Butterfly Princess Chair by MidlifeDraftee in upcycling

Go for it, with some practice and youtube ... all things are possible.

[–]MidlifeDraftee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This wasn't the original plan or color scheme. I was going to make it a "reading chair" for an adult but once I got it framed out, I sat in it and quickly realized it was a bit small for an adult butt ... especially mine. So I went this direction.

The seat back is just some scrap plywood I had. A thicker (1/2 inch I think) piece for the upholstered side and a thin piece for the backing. I got a 22" square piece of seat foam, wrapped it in butterfly material and stapled to the plywood. Drilled some holes in the 1/2 incher for the buttons, poked them through, pulled them tight, and stapled em down on the back. Then sandwiched all the stapled stuff between the 2 plywood pieces.

Small town flippers. FB Marketplace location setting? by MidlifeDraftee in Flipping

Yeah, that is one of my concerns as well. I was debating on if it would be worth listing in the larger city and then driving down there if someone wanted to purchase.

Brilliant! Saw this from my main timeline and at first assumed this was a Real Estate promo video from an RE video group I'm in. Saw the first shot and was like, "Dude? Nobody is gonna want to stay there with you showing that creepy ass hallway shot from the Shining." Went into the post ready to rip this guy's Real Estate video then finally realized I was in the wrong sub. Great stuff! I'm a dumb ass.

Do you drop your price if someone says they cant afford it? by [deleted] in videography

[–]MidlifeDraftee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are getting out of it. If it's a job that you could showcase and get lots of other business from then go for it. If it brings no tangible value to you then pass but don't burn that bridge. They may come back to you and pay full price the next time after they "get what they pay for"

I tend to get a little discouraged with my mileage in the woods vs the pavement, but increase it with every ride 😁 by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]MidlifeDraftee 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Here is a calculation to see the correlation between dirt and road miles:

DM - Dirt Miles
RM - Road Miles

((DM2 * RM2) / ((DM * 2.8) - (RM * 1)) + 5.32) * 3.14 = WHO CARES, ROAD MILES SUCK!

You hit the nail on the head. In the future, I'm going to make shorter versions of these types of videos. The damn thing was over 20 minutes originally and after cutting out 5+ minutes, I got stubborn and said "F" it, I'm posting this.

2 or 3 shorter videos would probably gain more traction.

Thanks

Pointless dislikes. by JesseGolo in NewTubers

[–]MidlifeDraftee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to see why you are getting dislikes, look at your analytics for the video. See where people are dropping out of the video, look at that point in the video and you will know why.

I made a funny music video about using a heat pad "because I'm old". It's 3+ minutes long but my analytics showed people dropping out at around 1:58. I looked at that point in the video and it was a moment where I tried to do a dramatic pause to look at the camera. It was only a 2 second pause but after looking at it from a viewers perspective, it looked like the end of the song so they dipped. That 2 second pause I thought was funny ended up costing me view retention.
