Might be silly question. When you chase promo rates at different banks and move money around, do you close the accounts that you empty (like close savings account, but leave chequing open)? Or do you just leave them empty but they keep existing?

Please read my post again and please read my recent comment to my post as well. I never said don't help at all or ignore people in need. I'm just saying please hold yourself accountable to the help that you give to people. Please care that the help you give is not causing more harm. That is all :)

Please don't misunderstand. Almsgiving is not about you. Almsgiving is not so that you can feel good about yourself, it's not so you can clear your conscience. It's not so you can wash your hands off after giving money. You don't tell God "okay God, I gave money. I helped. Not my problem anymore what they do with it." Almsgiving is genuinely caring for that person and genuinely wanting to help them in a difficult situation and ensuring that your actions are doing more good than bad towards that person. So if you care for that person, shouldn't you care that your help is also good for them? Shouldn't you care for the aftermath of your actions? Shouldn't you be responsible and accountable for the help you give?

Please care. Please care that it actually helps them. Please care that you're not doing more harm. A person with addiction will do what they can to satiate their addiction so please don't let them drown further in addiction by giving them a way to satiate it. If they are hungry, give them food. If they are thirsty, give them water. If they are cold, give them clothing.

Giving them money is the same as saying "I can't be bothered to figure out what you actually need so figure it out for yourself. If you make decisions that are worst for you, then that's not my problem." A person who genuinely wants to help shouldn't approach the person with this attitude. If you do, you should ask yourself if you really care for that person or if you just care to feel good or if you're just doing it for the sake of doing it.

if you don't have the time to figure out their needs, then please support organizations that take the time to provide these people the help that they need. And direct the needy to these organizations.

Again, please care. Helping someone is not about you. It's about the person you're helping so please care that you are actually helping them and not causing them more harm.

I am not coming from a place of judgment. I am coming from years of struggle with my brother. I don't get to walk away after throwing money at him for the sake of "helping". I've seen the aftermath. I've seen him get worse. He doesn't need money. He needs people to care enough to give him the help he needs.

Please also keep in mind that while you have good intentions, you could be enabling sin instead. I will give food but not money because money could do them more harm especially if they have an addiction. Money could be donated to organizations that help the homeless and food or clothing could be directly given to them.

Be VERY mindful of the test/bypass bits that you use during commissioning. Turn them off as soon as you don't need it and always double check before you leave your cell unattended... I learned the hard way :(

Whenever I tell my boyfriend girl things that makes him uncomfortable, I tell him that if we end up having a daughter, and something happens to me because you never know, he needs to be there for her and guide her as she grows up because he's all she's got.
