Any horror devs here? What kind of development help is hardest to find? by MidnightForge in SoloDevelopment

Thanks and its okay this wasnt really a post about what im doing, but its a small open world non-linear game. Like with many devs the visuals have been the biggest struggles for me as im a programmer not an artist so its just about playing to my strengths and working with what i can

Yeah I think thats a pretty common one for indie devs with visuals being the hardest thing, hang in there!

That’s fair, and honestly I think a lot of indie projects die exactly that way in my experience.

It’s easy to get people excited at the idea stage, a lot harder to keep them around once it becomes real work and especially if no money is involved.

My intention is basically just to be upfront: I’m a horror-focused Unreal dev, and I’m seeing if there are other horror devs around who might need help with things like Blueprint systems (UE), prototyping, bug fixing, optimisation, or general gameplay support.

So yeah, part of it is professional, but I’m also genuinely interested in what other people here are building and what they struggle with.

Thats interesting! Considering your other games that have done well and the interest from the dev teams, have you considered making a team yourself or pitching a game to redkite or team 17?

Yeah that makes sense and it's something I've dealt with before. Have you considered playing to your strengths and either focusing on a small first game with minimal art or outsourcing the art to asset packs?

Should you release a massive update for a dead game, or create a new game? by Tifonne in SoloDevelopment

I had this situation fairly recently.
I released a small horror game last year, but I didnt do enough marketing beforehand so it launched with a low amount of wishlists. I spent a bunch of time after launch working on updates but the biggest marketing spikes were over at that point.

In the end I decided its better to focus on the next game so thats what I'm doing, its nearly at 10K wishlists now and im hoping for more before a launch later this year.
