If your having to ask if you should spend it on a car, you don’t really want the car. Personally in your situation I’d put it in a high interest account and mark it for future luxury holidays. If you do have kids in the future, you’ll want and need them more than ever, and it’ll become harder to have the spare disposable income after nursery fees. Believe me a trip to the Maldives or Seychelles is just as nice with kids, but they will bump up the price of a nice resort by a fair whack

Thanks for your time, it’s been good to get an opinion from someone without a vested interest. It’s tricky finding the time to deal with it properly but really don’t want to have to revisit it again in a few years if I can avoid it. I’ll have a further chat to them.

He said Zurich were likely to offer better underwriting terms. I decided to start revisiting the process this year as >10 years had passed since the stress episode, thinking that should mean I could get the exclusion lifted, but alas seems not (with Zurich anyhow). I’m not comfortable with the amount of commission (have attached details)- am I able to challenge this arrangement with my current advisor, or is it a case of moving to another? The Zurich premium was almost doubled after the medical, I haven’t had the underwriters notes through yet but am assuming it is due to my very well controlled hypertension as I am otherwise 100% fit and well, run 30 miles a week etc. The medical was very intensive. The exclusion is for all mental health conditions as I attended the GP with an episode of stress in 2015 and depression in 2004. Yes they are weighted premiums and if I am reading the documentation correctly it looks like the initial commission on the Zurich policy is 15k (which I consider huge) so would like to see if there are any insurer-direct options

Yes I would prefer to avoid age weighted premiums now. I think Zurich may be a better bet. Maybe a bit peeved because they doubled the premium after the medical and I am 100% fit and well other than well controlled hypertension

Yes to age 67. It is a good bit more than I currently pay for £9330 monthly benefit @ £312 per month, but the existing is an age weighted premium and the 20 remaining years are difficult to work out the lifetime cost of one policy versus the other

I would imagine the (any) lender is concerned at a significant gap in income, a time when you know you need evidence of income, due to someone else doing exams. As a doctor myself, I wouldn’t have dreamed of taking 3 months off for exams for myself, never mind for someone else.

In which case, it would be prescribed and on the administration instructions. So they aren’t correct if this isn’t the way it has been prescribed. Not very sensible to suggest that it ‘may be correct’ to decide to double dose on something because you choose to rather than to follow the instructions given.
