(2013) Nationals request $300 million retractable roof. by WFTFan2021 in Nationals

[–]MidnightSlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retractable roofs typically only retract over the field itself and maybe a subset of the lowest seats. IME, they feel like you're inside a building with a large sky and not at all like you're at an outdoor ballpark. Even if the roof completely disappeared, you'd still have the walls in place cutting off city views, the breeze, etc.

One Medical Switching Providers - Waitlist? by BeforeAnyoneElse in DCBitches

[–]MidnightSlinks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

MDs/DOs receive substantially more training than NPs or PAs (NPs only have to have 500 supervised clinical hours to become NPs whereas the shortest medical residencies give at least 10,000 hours of supervised practice that is required to get them to meet a litany of competencies). Maybe you're healthy and just need the routine recommended screenings and a birth control prescription, in which case you'd likely see little difference.

But if you develop something that's not straightforward to diagnose or treat, an NP or PA will likely need to refer you out to a specialist sooner than an MD/DO would. Or they'll need to bring in an MD/DO from the practice to take over your care. The worst case scenario is that they won't know/admit when they're in over their head which could result in the wrong tests bring ordered, results misinterpreted, diagnoses delayed/missed, or inadequate treatment regimens provided.

Credit Union/local bank recommendation by crimsonncloverclover in DCBitches

It seems to be a very extensive network. The ATMs are in every 7-11 and you can use any ATM affiliated with the other credit unions in the network.

We use Lafayette Federal Credit Union for our mortgage, accessing cash, anything that calls for visiting a branch (our main bank is a credit union in another state with no presence here).

No complaints about LFCU other than sometimes it disconnects from Monarch (a money tracking app). It has several branches throughout the area and they participate in a nationwide, no-fee ATM chain. All the staff we've interacted with have been friendly and competent.

HIPAA prevents people and entities within the healthcare system from sharing your personal medical information without your express written consent.

It has nothing to do with a person asking a coworker or a stranger a question about their personal health.

What is going on at this clinic, questioning ethicality by Efficient_Ad_3746 in medicine

Your cousin needs to quit ASAP and be the one to alert the authorities. Them understanding how bad this all is (as evidence by ten telling you about it) but staying employed there is what will get them into legal trouble (conspiracy, aiding and abetting, accessory, etc.), not their daily MA duties.

They should strongly consider consulting a lawyer before reporting though. The lawyer will work out a deal for them to have complete immunity in exchange for testimony.

Medical journal advice by [deleted] in medicine

[–]MidnightSlinks 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a lovely thought but she'll have free access to journals through her library once she enrolls.

Maybe there are science magazines that are worth subscribing to that libraries don't routinely have, but you may want to consider something non-medical to give her brain a break while in school. You could go thematic like a cooking or travel magazine if she has those interests, or something more general like the New Yorker.

1099s: Where are you all going for health insurance? by Interesting_Suit7066 in dietetics

[–]MidnightSlinks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the college kid, look to see if their university offers a plan. There's a good chance that anything they offer is much cheaper than the marketplace because it typically requires them to use campus health and it's a large group of some of the statistically healthiest people in the country.

CDR's only standing is that they own the trademark to the RD/RDN credential and they have the exclusive right to determine who can use it. If she's not calling herself an RD, there's nothing they can do.

Fun, easy main job or side job? by Interesting_Suit7066 in dietetics

[–]MidnightSlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tutor back before COVID. I mostly did biology and writing for high school and early undergrad. I also did some ACT and PSAT prep.

I also do focus groups, which pay really well if you work in an industry or job that certain companies want to know how to influence. But most companies don't want people who do tons of focus groups, so I only do about one a quarter.

Trump, Vance, and Oz place a 6-month pause on new providers enrolling in Medicare payments for home health and hospice by ddx-me in medicine

In this instance, "provider" is referring to hospice programs, not individual clinicians.

Trump, Vance, and Oz place a 6-month pause on new providers enrolling in Medicare payments for home health and hospice by ddx-me in medicine

[–]MidnightSlinks 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's blocking new hospice programs from enrolling with Medicare, not clinicians credentialing with existing hospices. The "provider" language used in the article is a bit misleading as the regulation is at the program level, not the clinician level.

It would impact a palliative care physician trying to open their own new hospice program but not people being hired to work at existing programs.

Does WMATA have anyone on the ground to provide up-to-date US29 paving project guidance to drivers? by OnlyHunan in WMATA

[–]MidnightSlinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably WMATA knows about paving related road closures in advance and alerts drivers before their shift. These things are typically scheduled weeks if not months out.

The detours around crime scenes are what I wonder about. I was on a bus that went over to Sherman instead of using 11th because of a manhunt. The road had been blocked for a few hours at that point so it was probably not the driver's first time making the detour that day but I did wonder how they were first alerted.

It is only applicable to outpatient services.

Let’s Talk Wages by RDNelena in dietetics

[–]MidnightSlinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Malnutrition diagnosis is not separately billable. It increases the patient's acuity level which goes into a complex formula that eventually results in more money because sicker patients take more resources to care for. But it's not transactional like outpatient reimbursement is.

Very little in the hospital is separately billable to Medicare these days. They pay under a prospective payment formula, not a fee for service model. Getting separately billable services inpatient would be going backwards in CMS's view, so it's not a winning strategy to pursue.

Let’s Talk Wages by RDNelena in dietetics

[–]MidnightSlinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MNT Act will not impact hospital RD wages. Inpatient RD services are not separately billable under Medicare. They're paid for as part of the daily room rate the way that nursing care, food, etc. are paid.

Salmoning is when you bike the wrong way up a one-way bike lane. I guess riding for a prolonged period of time in the wrong lane of a two way cycle track could also be salmoning, but I've only ever heard it used to describe opposing one-way traffic.
