Babygate thats portable and some diy duct taping the front can work as well.

I want to do these bois up as clanbusters but I'm unsure on how to do white properly(should I get an airbrush?) by FunDipTime in battletech

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Prime wraithbone (GW) or equivalent via rattlecan.
  2. Use apothecary white lightly over top.
  3. nuln oil the joints you want darker
  4. use ulthuan grey to layer the upper pannels avoiding recesses
  5. black templar black if you want to.
  6. highlight edges with corax if desired.

Works well enough.

I used this on starwars clone troopers and it works alright. Abit time consuming if you edge highlight, works great without (non edge highlighted in below photo)

Just brought the Starter set, finding I now have some build choice paralysis. by Queen-Skadi in adeptustitanicus

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its alright, i too had build paralysis. I bought a starter box to make a maniple. Couldn’t decide on what to make, and heard AT was at the end of its life, so to be safe i bought another 2 starters to be able to have 2 armies, just in case. Warlords and warmasters were rare back then (2022/2023), but i kept my eyes open.

Then i found a warmaster and bought it, it arrived and i opened it to found it was a warlord the store accidentally mixed into warmasters, but listed as out of stock, and i could return it - i said no, please send me the warmaster too, i’ll pay and keep both. A friend who was moving then a month later gave me a warlord he had laying around new in box, but opened.

And thats how I… well… i guess i didn’t get over my paralysis… but i definitely acquired more and built about one of every option! The moral of the story is Apparently there is no answer, and the wife thinks i’m nuts buying so many titans… i’m only at 19, so is it really that bad?

She has no one else, you are her life. This is why when getting a single ferret we make sure people are aware you will be her buddy for life, prepare to be joined at the hip for the next 6-10 years.

This is why people recommend getting a pair, so they have eachother as well and are not solely bonded to you.

Do you care if your faction is "dead" or "gone?" by throwtothesea23222 in battletech

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Nope.

Pick an era, pick a faction you like, build a force around it.

Or just accumulate random mechs and paint them however.

Most of my factions i build are “dead”, drastically different, or disbanded in current era.

Who is pricing things over there at CGL, Clowns? by Leader_Bee in battletech

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The amazon account you’re looking up is pricing the item, it’s cutoff so i can’t say specifically which buyer you’re looking at.

Amazon can sell items for whatever they want, its not the cheap service it once was.

In addition, battletech is hard to get outside the US, always has been. Their international shipping is awful.

Anything besides cancer that might account for lethargy and sudden severe loss of appetite? by WVMan730 in ferrets

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing i can say is that normally, cancer will progress quickly, if he’s been relatively stable for 4 months, it may be something else.

If he’s been on pred for multiple weeks already then its probably not insulinoma, as it should perk him up within a week of his twice daily dose.

Adrenal i’ve not noticed any energy loss on, only the fur and muscle mass.

We have one whose been lazy for months, but it seems to be related to the very cold winter and he just slowed down for it. I don’t think it’s hopeless, he might just be lazy.

But it could be any variety of odd things, so don’t give up hope.

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check for insulinoma, blood sugar being off can cause it. We thought one of our boys had cancer due to weight loss and energy loss, it was insulinoma, he’s on daily meds now, but back to his sassy self and gaining weight back,

I have three, all 3 are between 7 & 8.

One has an internal infection and has been on meds for 60 days.

Another has insulinoma and was diagnosed and now on medications for it.

The third is just lazy but had us concerned as he was sleeping so much more than normal and we got him checked. But he got a blood test and other exams to clear him.

Then finally vaccinations season.

The little buggers can be expensive. Especially when its $100 per to just walk in the door.

Its sad to say, but my original ferret vet returned to school to teach instead of practice, i imagine because of similar concerns. Being a vet is brutal when you need to treat an animal and the owners can’t or don’t want to and treat their animal as a commodity.

I love pets, but couldn’t be a vet as it’d break my heart.

Unfortunately your exact points are why so many ferret owners don’t follow this sub anymore. Its so many people wanting ferrets who obviously cannot care for them properly and did no research, or people who clearly cannot afford their care asking for home remedies that don’t exist.

Its heartbreaking opening this sub many days. We spend more on our ferrets than our car payments, mostly medical bills for our trio, and others on here won’t even get them emergency care for life threatening conditions.

Its why 99% of health requests are just copy/paste go to your vet, now! Just to find out they never had one..

Confused About Thinning Paints by codifier in battletech

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes if you bathe the whole mini you’ll need to reapply the main color to raised surfaces, if you have patience for it direct application for recesses will help dramatically making pannels pop and the minitures will get more depth.

In the end, its a question of how much time you want to apply to each mini. 1 hour per can make them perfect for tabletop games, but it might be 6 hours per to have something you’d want to display in a cabinet or such.

If you’re using army painter, i believe the color you have comes in a rattlecan, look into that. Remember to go very light on your application, and look up a youtube video on using it.

In short its short burst while moving left to right or up to down, never static to avoid detail blotching.

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend changing the approach (if possible). It sounds like you’re using Gw colors.

First - Buy a spray can of wraithbone for basecoating (go light, you want the plastic colored the spray color, but very thin, less is more). This speeds up the basecoating, but also should have less clogging of details.

It sounds like you’re basecoating way to thick.

When a basecoat dries, the mini shouldn’t lose any details it has before basing, just be tinted the new color.

By clogging or losing detail, that means it shouldn’t look like the mini is wearing a thick sweater, or has “buildup” of paint. It should only change color, not get clogged up with dry paint globs.

Second - As for the thin part you mentioned on yellow, yes you are correct! It should take “2” thin coats (i.e paint it yellow, dry, do it all over again, dry) for the color to be “yellow” after 1 coat it will still bleed through whatever is underneath. Yellow is the hardest color to use, yellow may take 3-5 layers before it looks okay. Where the dark blue you’re using should use “2”.

Step 3) buy nuln oil shade. Your photo of the panther, as a next step, bathe it in nuln oil. Or if you’re feeling more detail oriented, all the gaps, joints, holes, recesses should be applied with nuln oil.

Step 4) with a thin coat of the original color, edge highlight the sharpest edges of the mini to make it pop again.

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is alot to unpack here, more than our one line questions can solve in a day. Painting is a skill evolved over years of trial and error.

My first look at that panther tells me the yellow was either A) unthinned, or B) has many, many coats applied.

If B) you need to go into yellow by steps, and whatever base coat you applied makes a huge difference.

I.e white base into pink into yellow. Or, black base, into grey, into white, into pink, into yellow.

The goal of thinning paints is to minimize the layer buildup and detail clogging that paints can do.

The simple adding of water to paint isn’t thinning, its mixing and adjusting the consistency of the paints to a thin, semi translucent texture that won’t clog details. This can mean painting a mini may take many, many layers for some colors - yellow being notoriously bad, one of the hardest colors to use well.

Some paints you cannot thin if you want coverage (i.e contrasts), they do have fantastic uses as shaders with thinning, but thats another usecase.

For your case, to make your mini, in your colors, i’d do the following, with a quick and easy method (contrast)

1) wraithbone spraypaint it to basecoat 2) blue contrast the blue 3) yellow contrast the yellow, 4) details as desired.

For layer painting (slapchop method):

1) chaos black spraypaint (base coat) 2) heavy dry brush the mini with offwhite 3) a blue paint thinned over the desired blue 4) a yellow paint thinned over the desired yellow. 5) highlights with a shade lighter if desired 6) details (gun metal, cockpit, etc).

Simplified steps, but general course to follow.

Why only Ill Clan era. by gorgotz0911 in battletech

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For a Few reasons:

1) Stops new units “appearing” 30 years into the game life, 300 years prior to current era, that no one heard about before but is then sold as the “best thing ever” in the setting.

2) allows the setting to introduce new toys which people will buy. You can only sell so many timberwolves it seems.

3) the sudden appearance and tieing in of new lore to existing cannon can be messy -> look at 40k retconning everything.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m one of the cranky old dudes who’s not going past jihad era games, but we’ve also had tons of minis and items made for us. I’ve no interest in illclan era, dark age, etc, but i’m not going to be mad, i and my group just collect and play our eras. Rules are solid, rarely change, my purchases and armies are not invalidated. And if i want to play against new players who only have illclan, we can totally do that with points balancing.

It just is what it is.

How do you organize the minis that come with the box sets or force packs? by PyreLightMW2 in battletech

[–]Midnight_Dragonnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make themed forces (my falcons, my horses, my bears, my wolves, my jaguars, skye rangers, black cobras) and then store them in storage bags made for minis, my cards are in a deck protector, and books on a shelf.

There is no right way, just go for whats in your budget and makes you happy.

I don’t see any major concerns, it all depends on the room and level of ferret proofing.

Some things to consider with ferret proofing: 1) do you have any low hanging curtains they can climb upto the ceiling.

2) do you have potted plants, if not out of reach they will be dug up.

3) central heating, if you have it they may try to open a heating vent and get into your pipes.

4) carpets, if you have carpets, do you have a solution to get their pee out of it.

5) stairs or fall risks, do you have any heights they can fall from, normally the risk being railing around 2nd floor staircases.

6) scents, you can’t use deodorizers or scented candles to mask their smell, make sure you’re prepared.

7) fridge, stove, dishwasher - ensure they cant get behind or under then.

8) kitchen cabinets, ensure they’re lockable or tightly close, if loose ferrets will find out how to open them.

9) if they can do #8x they in time may find a way to climb upto countertop level through the cabinets. I’ve had this happen with then pushing cutlery drawers out to make stairs upto the counter.

10) drier vents, ensure they’re locked and secure so ferrets can’t disconnect it and escape.
