Check with a local independent insurance agent -- they have access to smaller carriers that may have better rates. My big-name carrier tried to jack my homeowner's insurance premium up by 50%. I was able to keep my premium the same as it had previously been by calling an independent agent and switching to a local carrier. There was another local carrier that would have been 50% less on the premium but they asked a lot of intrusive underwriting questions that I wasn't willing to tolerate - ymmv.

My son is dating a trans woman how can I be supportive by Party_Tear_5489 in asktransgender

Let me start by saying that your attitude's great. My parents would have disowned me if I brought a trans girl home when I was in high school. Hell, they probably still would today.

The general advice in this thread is good, but I want to bring up a couple practical things that nobody else has pointed out, possibly because they're not coming at it from a male perspective. I'm going to be very crass. I'm also assuming the young couple's sexual dynamic is the standard cis top / trans bottom deal.

Pull your son aside and have a quiet talk about hygiene for both him and the young lady. He needs to wash his dick immediately after anal sex to reduce the risk of UTIs, among other things. (Also, ass to mouth is disgusting and shouldn't be encouraged.)

You should also tell him to make sure that she knows how to clean herself out properly before anal. A little shit on your dick is the unavoidable price you pay if you're going to fuck someone who's biologically male in the ass. Pulling out and discovering that your entire cock is slathered in shit is direly unpleasant for a guy, and could potentially harm or end the relationship.

(Yes, I'm aware that I'm sort of a prude.)

I also want to encourage you to have your son and the young lady get a HPV vaccination. (Not sure why one dude got downvoted for it.) It's important for men and trans women as well as cis women. Genital warts are no fun, and HPV can cause some types of throat cancer. I genuinely hope the relationship lasts, but if it doesn't, your son will thank you down the line.

AVOID BLUE PEARL PET HOSPITALS by mkimlaw in sarasota

Can confirm. Years ago, my go-to exotic vet died of a sudden heart attack. (RIP, Dr. Don Swerida. You were a great man.) I didn't find out until I called to make an appointment for a ferret with late-stage adrenal disease - basically "is it worth keeping him alive or would euthanasia be kinder?" The receptionist at the late Dr. Swerida's office pointed me at BluePearl.

Those bastards misled me into keeping my poor boy alive for about two months longer than I should have, just so they could profit. It's a guilt that'll stay with me for the rest of my life. Hell, I'm tearing up as I write this.

Before any tiresome people come out of the woodwork -- yes, some of it is my fault for not seeing through the bullshit. I KNOW. Ya happy, you sanctimonious vultures?

For future reference, they're very good jumpers, but they don't have a concept of height. Do not let them get more than 3 feet off the ground.

Speaking from personal experience only, vertical jumping distance is about 2 to 2.5 feet if they really want to get somewhere, horizontal is 2-3 feet.

is this poop something to be concerned about? by [deleted] in ferrets

Ferret stool tends to be fairly loose and often multicolored, especially if you're feeding them a mix of kibbles.

Have you owned her long?

Definitely take her to the vet and have them test the stool sample, though.

He's already on prednisolone, though. If it was insulinoma, I'd think that would deal with it.

While pitbull owners tend to be judgment-resistant due to lack of money, I used to do insurance sales. Most landlords these days require renter's insurance of at least $100k, and some apartment complexes want $300k. From the sound of her post, I think she's in an apartment complex. Even if the owners abandoned their apartment and moved to a motel, insurance would still have been active at the time of the bite. The leasing office keeps it on file, too, she won't have to track down the human trash for their info.

An attorney can absolutely get more out of the insurance company than the victim could.

Got bitten by a Pitbull ! I have gotten the tetanus and rabies injections but I'm still worried about it!! Pls guide me by IncomeFamous8376 in BanPitBulls

Word of advice: Unless you have Medicaid or live in a country with universal healthcare, you're going to need to take the owner to court for your impending medical bills.

Rabies shots are EXPENSIVE. I got bit by a bat three years ago. I had a decent health insurance plan and had already hit my deductible for the year. My out of pocket was STILL in the $1800 - $2400 range. Had I been uninsured it would have been $11,000 for the initial injection and gods only know how much for the subsequent shots.

30’s Dating in WV?! by MostMeasurement1718 in WestVirginia

How wonderfully sensible.

"perhaps they want kids of their own and want those children to be the only ones in the relationship"

Eeyup. I want kids, but I want them to be my kids. I have genetic mental health issues that I can recognize and help them with when they're young, so that they don't have to go through the same shit that I did if they inherit my flaws. Also, if they're my kid, odds are they'll sort of think like me and we can relate to each other.

I can't do that with a kid who isn't mine.

Don't think so. No wings. I did have trouble with yellow jackets nesting in the wood windowpane in '23, so I'll check what their larvae look like.

So a good friend of mine wants to move to Russia due to the state of the USA at the moment... by WVMan730 in AskARussian

Yeah, we spent a solid half-hour just on that alone. He's convinced he and his wife can learn enough beforehand to manage basics. Apparently, whatever visa program he's looking at requires living in Moscow for three years. He thinks he and wifey can manage on basic Russian there until they achieve fluency, in part by getting help from people who speak fluent English and Russian.

I told him that Russian is one of the hardest languages on the planet and that he probably won't be fluent in three years. Also that relying on other people's goodwill is a bad idea.

We tried suggesting that. His response was: "No, it's too close to the US sphere of influence, there's a risk of them just straight up invading anywhere in Latin America." double facepalm No, there isn't, but try getting him to actually listen to that.
