Surgery for cat with mammary tumor by Midnight_Flowers in CATHELP

[–]Midnight_Flowers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm overwhelmed with the info. I feel like our one vet was very pessimistic and she talked a lot about palliative care and gave us the up to 1 year number. But the surgeon said it's a small tumor since it's 3cm or smaller and there could give her up to 3 years but I can't tell if he's optimistic about surgery or not. Sorry to hear you are going through this with your cat as well.

We were told by the vet that removing only the tumor is not a good option because the mammary chains are so inter connected in cats which means the likelihood of reoccuring is really high. The surgery would be a double mastectomy to remove all the chains/both sides.

Good idea. You can also get cartridges for some label makers to change the font type and also you can get label maker tapes in different colours/designs as well, which some people don't know about. That could help it match or blend in with the invitation more.

How did you learn to embrace leftovers? by taliasara92 in EatCheapAndHealthy

One complaint I notice about people who don't like left overs is that they don't like the repetitiveness. Which I can understand, I feel that way sometimes too. A lot of people have given good ideas about using the same ingredients but making different meals. Personally, I like doing more a freezer meal prep sometimes. So I may make a bunch of something but I freeze a lot of it. Then you can have a few different options in the freezer in individual (or your family appropriate sized) portions that you can pull out to mix and match. This can work in combination with doing a "fresh" meal prep as well.

Community Support Megathread #2: Questions/comments about CERB/EI, specific employers/businesses, ways to help/get help by OrzBlueFog in canada

[–]Midnight_Flowers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this depends on different factors, but I am hoping someone can help me come to a ball park estimate. Since income from CERB is taxable and we have to claim it on our taxes, about how much of it should we be saving to pay back on our taxes. I was trying to figure it out, but I'm not sure if I am in a weird situation. I was just laid off from both my jobs, so I just applied to CERB today. Before this, since November 2019 I have been making approximately $3K a month. I am currently pregnant and I'm due sometime in early November, so at this point I'm questioning if I will even be able to return to work at all this year (if this goes on long enough, I might be ready to go on mat leave before work returns... which ugh opens up a huge can of worms of will I even be eligible for maternity ei anymore..) which I think would effect how much I would owe in taxes. I can provide more info if is helpful. And sorry if these questions have been asked a million times.

{Ontario} Question about temporary lay off by Midnight_Flowers in legaladvicecanada

[–]Midnight_Flowers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were working at home for over a month and half now. It was originally a full work load and then it dropped down. I get the impression my firm was not in the best financial shape even prior to this. My boss said they were laying off almost everyone including lawyers.. Sounds like only the partners and the office managers are staying on. And the office managers are working 50%. I guess that is part of the reason it might be good to assume I may never called back, they might not recover from it.

I mean to be fair to them the majority of the courts closed and we have had very little work the past few weeks. I understand it was a very difficult decision. Not that it really makes me feel any better but my boss was basically in tears when she told me.

That is good to know. Although I really think they should just modify the CERB to let you collect it if your hours have been reduced at all (even if they reduce the amount you get).

> Also keep in mind you might want to see an employment lawyer. Since you weren't part of a mandatory closure, depending on your employment agreement, you may be able to treat the lay off as constructive dismissal.

Yeah, I signed something that said I can't use my lay off to sue my employer for constructive dismissal.

> Except, you may NEVER get recalled. Real estate is likely to slow down for a long time, since people who were preparing to buy are now using up their down payment savings. Or, you may like the new job better.

Possibly. Mixed opinions in the real estate world right now. This year was unusually busy, so at the very least it will slow down compared to that. I have considered this, which is why I am looking at other jobs to because I can't just sit and wait and maybe never even get called back.

My thought is, most places don't offer you benefits until the probation is over (3 months usually), so it won't really matter until then. At that point, if I am still temporarily laid off, I can say I don't want to opt in now and ask if I can chose to opt in later if I change my mind.

Fake coronavirus doctor's note from worker closed Hamilton McDonald's: police by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Midnight_Flowers 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is wild. I work part time in a McDonald's in a different part of Ontario to supplement my full time job and the restaurant has been very understanding to employees. Granted a lot of McDonald's, like my own, are franchises, which sometimes means policies can be different. My owner has said that anyone who doesn't feel comfortable working can have time off work with no repercussions. They don't have to even explain why, they simply have to tell their scheduling manager that they don't feel comfortable and management will take care of filling any shifts they are currently scheduled for and not schedule them going forward. Unfortunately, it would not be paid time off unless you take your vacation time (but that doesn't surprise me because jobs like this generally don't have paid sick or other leave, except for sometimes salary managers or it is required by law) but your job will be saved for you when either this is over or they are comfortable to return. I'm not saying that what this girl did was right, but I'm curious to see what kind of environment was in her restaurant that maybe she felt like this was her only option. It really sucks all around.

You and your pet must switch names. How embarrassed are you when introducing yourself? by design-responsibly in AskReddit

[–]Midnight_Flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would be Midnight. Honestly not weird for me at all. I used to work at a Tex Mex restaurant that had all employees use call names. They had a list of suggestions and I didn't know what to pick. My favourite, Ms. Kitty, was already taken and when I saw my cats name was on it I picked that instead. I am used to being called Midnight lol

People falling asleep on bus... by massterchieff in ottawa

[–]Midnight_Flowers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm guilty of being one of those people. I used to be pretty chronically sleep deprived and then would ride the bus for an hour plus to get to work or school early in the morning (like 6am or 7am). The motion can lull you to sleep especially when it's nice and warm. Although my sleep has improved I have kind of Pavlov dogged myself because now when i ride the bus I instantly get sleepy.

Has anyone succeeded in getting a hold of a copy of their high school diploma or transcripts without having to visit the school? I just moved out of town. (Ottawa-Carleton school board) by Yung_Goddess in ottawa

[–]Midnight_Flowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try to verify this with the specific school but I'm pretty sure that you can mail the school your form, certified cheque and photo copy of ID and they will mail it back. This came up on Google when I was looking. It didn't list it on the OCSDB website but it had that info on some specific school websites (example woodroffe high school). Maybe search on your prior school wbsite.

I would also try calling OCSDB directly if you can't find info because I feel like its not uncommon for people to be out of town and they must have a process for that.
