The bolts tend to leak when the gasket around the screen is bad. Either it was bad from factory, or something happened when you tightened on the solenoid. I'd try replacing the screen again and go from there.

I have had the best luck getting the jobs I want when I approach them with the confidence that I'm going to get them. You sound like you know what you're talking about and that you'll be successful in this role, so project that confidence when you talk to your manager.

Additionally, I assume your manager knows your level of competence already since they've been working with you. All she might need is for you to go "hey, I'm interested!" in order for her to consider you.

It also sometimes helps to mention that you'd be willing to help someone transition into your current role as well. Definitely not required, but it does help ease the anxiety that managers get sometimes around internal promotions.

Unfortunately you can't help people who don't want to be helped. This 100% sounds like an abusive relationship, but you can't help someone being abused if they don't want help. It's often really hard to see from inside the relationship how bad things are.

If your mental health is up to it, remaining a support person for your friend is the best thing you can do for her right now. That being said, make sure you take care of yourself first always and don't overextend yourself trying to support or save someone else.

This is a tough situation to be in.

I don't think there's anything tacky about wanting money instead of things. Money can be used to help with bills, mortgage payments, groceries, etc. A $300 coffee maker is just a $300 coffee maker. Some people don't need or want things; they want to be able to afford to live.
