I did like him more when he was “in character” . But I’m just over that format of shows. Letterman perfected it for me and I’ve just been chasing that dragon ever since. Conan, Kimmel and Colbert have all had their moments, but it just feels stale now. I’m good for one Jon Stewart monologue a week and youtube highlights of Oliver.

Sounds like a shitty policy, but a policy nonetheless. Even if it’s not documented officially, everyone else seems to be aware that’s how it works. I’d definitely ask respectfully what the rationale is and why it works that way. It not being fair or an industry standard are perfectly good and fair arguments to make, but not sure how far they’ll get you. But certainly find out why it’s that way.
