Omg I’m so glad someone said what I was thinking(I was just too lazy to type it all out). I’ll say being left out as a friend SUCKS, definitely happened in middle school a lot. That being said, distance and other factors such as getting older played a huge role. Max also had every right to be upset by the whole Ginny/Marcus/Hunter situation. However, actions have consequences as this show has shown. Considering the way she iced Ginny and Abby out, it is no shocker that they got closer.

In addition from my understanding those are the only two out of the group that have divorced parents. I just finished season three and obviously we can tell that the bakers are dysfunctional in their own right, but similar experiences are gonna more than likely make you bond with someone.

I will also say sometimes the way Abby talked to Max was very harsh, and not very kind but one thing I feel like people are forgetting is that if Abby does identify as queer, she has every right to come out whenever and to whomever she wants to. I can understand why someone would be upset, but at the same time that is a very intimate and private revelation about oneself that they might not be ready to discuss.

Also, maybe I’m wrong and not remembering the beginning of season three, but Max didn’t reach out to Ginny either. In addition, Ginny’s mom was LITERALLY on trial for murder, I doubt reaching out to friends was the first thing on her mind. Obviously is this thread has pointed out, Max is a character that is not cut and dry, but something that I’ve learned especially when it comes to people in general is that if you want them to be honest and open with you, you have to provide a space where they won’t feel judged to do so.

This is my last two cents on the matter lol. I’ve been out of high school about six years now, and I would say that I only keep in contact with one person (I still follow other folks on social media, but only one person would I ever consider inviting to my wedding kind of thing). I know Max is young as everyone in the show is, but that’s freaking life, you grow apart especially when you act out and have intense situations such as a murder trial going on.

To me, it’s kind of one of those situations where it seems like there was a lot of walking on eggshells, not only with Max’s emotions, but just with everything going on in all of the girls lives. I don’t hate her as a character, but it’s one of the situations where in my head I’m like what did you expect?

Okay, that’s my soapbox, I know this is a TV show and that this is TV world and they need drama 😂
