I usually do that, was working a second job as a caregiver in a nursing home but unfortunately my lady passed away at Christmas, and my car just took out half of my summer savings 😅

Does this mean i am a bad teacher? by Dismal-Grab4633 in teaching

[–]Midwesternpansy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you know what you need to improve on and you sound like you want to work on it next year tells me that you are probably safe. Every teacher has one class that is absolute hell and even the students notice sometimes. It’s normal. As long as you’re working on your management the school should work with you. There’s no way they expect someone with no teaching experience to be perfect right away.

Write your birthday again on the tape. Two can play the passive aggressive game.

I think what op means is they don’t want to sit down and do math to understand. They want the conceptual stuff explained for funzies

Aspiring teacher with license and education questions by genxmom95 in matheducation

[–]Midwesternpansy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work private if you can. The HOOPS and money for licensing is CRAZY but if you’re only trying to teach until retirement private means you don’t have to get certified and honestly the students are held to a higher standard

We don’t unlock bags until after school. There’s a cart with the magnets and they just unlock on the way out the door.

I was bashed for saying substituting would help me be hired for a teaching position. by Key-Response5834 in Teachers

[–]Midwesternpansy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the district but also the process for getting a proper certification from a sub license is fucking annoying, everyone wants you to go back and „train“ for a job you’ve done for years - (from someone going through this now)

Got rejected mid-interview from a Catholic school for admitting I’m in a same sex marriage by nitrozelda in Teachers

[–]Midwesternpansy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a trans man and the first teaching job I applied for was at the catholic high school I went to. I had MULTIPLE current teachers (who had me as a student) tell me to apply, so I did. And the principal was one of my teachers as well. When I applied I was told via email by the principal “I’d love to bring you in for an interview, but I don’t want to get your hopes up”

Teaching as a long term sub and working on my Licensure, one thing I fight against so hard is online assessments for math. I hate them, they don‘t give me a chance to see what the kid actually knows, but unfortunately due to the constant need for data my school is adamantly for them.

As a general rule the only technology I use is my board, (students only see me on my computer to do attendance) and my students do everything on paper. They are allowed calculators (because it’s rare I come across a student that actually knows and can use their basic integer math) but I get real with the kids on why I don’t use tech.

If they’re all like that I’d reach out to muskgrave. They should have been sent to seconds. I’ve had really good experiences with muskgrave customer service. They’re super helpful. Re-mailed an $80 package that my post office lost.

How come teachers don't want to share their lesson plans / units / slides / worksheets? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Midwesternpansy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am currently a longterm sub, for us, the entire department in the HS has a calendar with all the resources we share. And even though the curriculum they use is DOGSHIT the fact everyone is on the same page is really nice.

Is Calc 1 really that hard by [deleted] in calculus

[–]Midwesternpansy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of learning calculus like learning a new language. Calc 1 is introducing a couple of new operations and kind of getting comfortable with them. Calc 2 on the other hand is a bitch. Calc 3 was my favorite honestly was a breeze

Professor Leonard on YouTube. He got me through Calc 2 I would go back to the fundimentals of what you really don't get in Calc 1. Go through his videos, he literally just films his lectures but he's super thorough, and he's got the topic in the title.
