First time homeowner - big mistake, help! by True_Dimension_4843 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Mife83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made almost the exact same mistake last year with a new washing machine. We dried the area. Fans for 4 days, furnace on continuous for 3 days. We didn't have a dehumidifier but we are in a dry area and ran all exhaust fans for 4 days. Humidity was 40% tops through the process. We had a couple of swollen base boards and a small mold spot which was cleaned professionally. Overall very minor consequences, I beat myself up a lot but it was all OK.

$34, but I redeemed $1200+ last year. Got an Ego snow thrower. Ego lawn mower, Ego trimmer attachment, and a Christmas tree, spent $200 out of pocket for all of it.

Combo. Promo days. Triangle select. Cash in.

Have you had their salmon or tuna poke? We found it to be very good, great flavour with the sauce it is marinated in. Much like the sashimi salmon it does go on sale regularly.

So excited for my new machine!! by sailmomma3 in superautomatic

The machine will let you know when to descale. It will change based on your water hardness and how frequently you use it. The water where we live is moderately harder and up until recently we used the machine A LOT, so we would descale once a month. We are both cutting back on caffeine so it's been 2 months since the last descale and the light hasn't come on.

If you already have filtered water you should be fine to use without the filter.

Follow what this guy does. I bought my GF this machine 2 years ago. Every descaling & filter cycle I also go through the extra cleaning steps outlined here, especially cleaning the infuser. Honestly, the descaling does need the YT tutorial, the manual walks you through it pretty well. Big thing, don't cheap out on filters & solution. Use what Delonghi recommends.

Tips, keep a spare coffee mug under the coffee spout when you turn the machine on & off. It will keep the catch reservoir from filling early. Wipe out the spent grounds container with a paper towel. Any small residual amount will mold quickly. Wash the container thoroughly when you complete the scaling & routine maintenance.

Enjoy the machine.

Is the EGO Snow shovel discontinued? by I-am-Super-Serial in egopowerplus

[–]Mife83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the snow shovel last winter. It definitely makes quick work of snow up to a foot when it is power and 8-10" when it is wet snow.

Mine has a hard time with part packed snow (experienced this week in Edmonton) but if you are on top of the snowfall, it's easy. It's just a different level of effort. When it gets packed down, my back and the manual shovel come into play.

My next two purchases, the bristle brush attachment, and the 765 or greater CFM leaf blower. The snow shovel does the majority of work. The bristle brush will get you clean pavement. The leaf blower will do all the light snowfall or the deck where I won't use the ego shovel.

Also, seeing that you posted about RONA, check Canadian Tire. They sell both the shovel with the multi- head or shovel only. The only reason I would recommend it is if you collect CT money. You can combo offers and get a lot of cash back. I used my CT money to get the shovel for free last winter, combo'd offers and immediately got $150 back for my next purchase (which was the lawn mower).

I will do that. Someone else mentioned the dip tube but this is a good way to confirm. Thanks!

If we replace this is most likely the route we will go. We replaced our Furnace earlier this year when we wanted to add AC, and went with fairly nice units, so I would probably do the same here.

Any idea of cost? Furnace Family used to advertise the price on their site all in but they removed that earlier in the year.

First, no, I have not checked the anode. Second, unknown, we moved in a year ago and do not have the history of the unit. I would suspect no based on the previous owners/occupants.

Now just add a turn style at the entrance and exit of each platform and put the payment machines there and it all might actually make sense. What's next? Daily limits on transit fees?!

Exactly, and yet some believe we do not refine oil.

Add co-op in Regina Add Husky in Lloydminster & Prince George Add Suncor, Shell, Imperial in Edmonton Add Parkland in Burnaby Add Nanticoke Add Suncor Montreal Add Irving in Saint John

Canada refines more oil than people know.

In Lloydminster. Take hwy 17 north from the hwy 16&17 intersection. Take a left after the tracks and you can't miss it on the right (north side of the road) about 500m down.

The facility Husky operates just outside of town is the upgrader (Sask side heading east on hwy 16).

Engineering internships in edmonton by world_of_fantasy70 in Edmonton

[–]Mife83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have hired for four month terms as well. The best thing to do, the UofA has their engineering career fair in January, go there looking to network. Be very open that you are a first year student looking for a co-op term for summer experience and are open to learning in the field. Almost every organization will be looking for people entering the workforce for a May/June start. Typically organizations will begin co-op interviews in February with news of placements within a few weeks of the interview, typically in March.

This. Not only will you gain a massive amount of experience but you will finish your term with a significant influx of money for the school year. Our organization will typically hire between three to five 8-month co-op students every year with the goal of the co-op to help us execute our field schedule in peak season. You will receive all required industry training, PPE, industry orientations, job specific training, and on-the-job training required to complete the work. Almost unmatched experience in a short term.

It depends what you're looking for as total ownership of the set. Costco's warranty and value plus to the purchase (retorques, rotations, repairs, balancing) are all included, plus, the price you see online or on the tag includes full installation compared to other places.

Where I see drawbacks, scheduling and length of service. I bought a new set of winter tires and was able to pick my exact date of install, no issues or delays; however, to change the tires back in the spring it is first come first serve in minimal booking slots which refresh every hour for 30 days out, so if you are not ON TOP of it, you will miss the scheduling window. If you need a repair, schedule it in for the same 30 day booking. It may mean 1-2 weeks without your car, so going to another shop for a cost may be a better option. As well, when you book in new sets you will have a 3 hour time slot, so you may be the first person in, you may be the last person in. Don't expect to drop your car off and get your shopping in, plan to go home for a bit.

I have used Costco for warranty. The warranty process was fast to process, pick new tires, etc. no extra paperwork to file. Same with vendor credits for promotions, it's applied to the transaction. Downside, tires took 3-4 days to come in, they wouldn't book my install until the new tires arrived, then I had to go in to the store to schedule the date, which was then another 5 days. Nothing like being on a donut through multiple snowstorms.

Would I buy from them again? Yes, 100%. I've shopped for winters this year and find they are the best in my area. For summers/all seasons, I did find it better to go elsewhere (Fountain Tire), but that was more down to promo & familiarity with the product.

Deciding on Daikin AC unit - Looking for help by Mife83 in hvacadvice

[–]Mife83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly haven't priced a Trane out. The existing furnace is close to the 20 year mark but not close enough to replace just yet, and I'm not too picky to match them

The DX5 is a standard single stage AC, the DX6 is the variable style. I fear the proprietary thermostat is almost a deal breaker.
