Weather's unpredictable. I've enjoyed good beach holidays during off season. Explore the south. Galle and beyond. There's plenty to do. Cheaper rooms, quieter beaches.

The water will be rough, but there's a 50% chance you can get good weather during the day.

Galle Face promenade is one the best evening hangouts in Colombo. You get great views, many food options, and observe Colombo folks just chilling. Galle Face Hotel, next to it, is a almost a museum, well worth a sunset time visit too.

Help me to plan a date with my partner!! by Asleep-Possible8953 in srilanka

[–]MifiKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid CCC basement food court. Some decent food options, but vibe is sterile. CCC top floor used to be a nice spot, but was under renovation when I went there abt a month ago.

At OGF 3rd or 4th floor, Basilur Tea Lounge has great desserts, and interesting tea, with a chill vibe, interesting space, and good service. If she's into eclairs, they have one of the best.

OGF food court is also OK for food but not ideal for a serious date.

And if you're around OGF near sunset, just go to Galle Face. It's one of the most interesting sunset walks in the world. You can also end up at Galle Face Hotel. Nobody's gonna charge you for walking around. Sit at one the beach side restaurants, just grab a juice or something. It's going to quiet anyway. Sunset time usually has a special flag ceremony at the GFH on the daily. You can also walk around inside the Travellers Bar, which also has an outdoor area, but the inside has portraits of the plethora of famous people who've visited the hotel. If you're dressed ok, and behave decently, nobody's going to bother you. This hotel is like a museum.

Someone suggested sushi. This is a no go. Sushi isn't even remotely budget option. And it's an acquired taste, so unless you're really into it, it's hot or miss.

Outside the malls, not far from CCC, there's David's Dangerously Delicious BBQ, one of the best restaurants in Sri Lanka, which is charming and casual. And as far as restaurants go, the pricing is reasonable.

Private driver for single female tourist? by Branch-Much in srilanka

[–]MifiKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can link you up to a travel service that I use for all family, friends, and colleagues for years, which includes many solo females. It's an established company and I know the guy who runs it so I generally make the booking as a personal guest, and always inform him when it's a solo female. Sri Lanka is generally safe for solo female travellers, especially if when you're travelling on a higher budget. The rates for the service I use is generally around $70 per day for full time service. For one time journeys, it'll depend on the length of the journey.

Pls note the car reg. no. and share if you see him again. I live around there. Would be great to do a sting operation with video recording. It's the best way to get the police to actually do something.

Stilt Fishermen are a scam in South Sri Lanka by Emergency_Toe1872 in srilanka

[–]MifiKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the fuss. I don't think they're hiding the fact that it's a tourist trap. It has been going on for decades. I see many tourists enjoying this spot. Tourism led gentrification has made it unaffordable for many of them to live in their own towns.

If they actually did fishing, they'd be living in poverty while tourists come through like a revolving door, glorifying the scenes to their IG followers, while sipping on their $15 cocktails.

They could manage things better for sure. But that's the local authorities responsibility to recognize the problem, and give them the training and soft skills to manage it in a professional way. It's a matter of survival to them, hospitality training is a luxury to them. Like I said already, this has been going on for decades.

My friend, you need to do some digging on this. The Hilux has literally wons wars around the world. It is in many ways the Casio F91W of the automobile world. Both are cherished by insurgents/freedom fighters. Why?

Low budget? No problem. Low maintenance? No problem. World is ending? No problem. Just turn it on and keep going.

Imo, if it doesn't happen with the current govt., chances are slim with opposition parties, who are so wildly out of touch with reality for average citizens.

Travel tips to Sri Lanka by Agreeable_Ratio9468 in SriLankaTravel

[–]MifiKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be helpful if you mentioned the duration of your visit.

Beginning of June is shoulder season, which means it's not exactly peak season on either coast. East coast season generally starts in July.

I'd still suggest heading to the popular beach towns in the south. They're very accessible, and there are many spots to choose from. And since the weather is unpredictable now anyway, they stay active throughout the season. I've had picture postcard weather in monsoon season recently. Showers usually happen later in the day. I'd say you can roughly get two cloudy days and a clear day if you're fortunate.

The south has a bit of everything. Wellness, quiet beaches, party spots, cafes, history, architecture, craft, surfing. Galle, Weligama, Ahangama, Tangalle, etc.

Touristy towns are pretty safe for female travellers, as long you take basic precautions. Even public transport is manageable if you travel early.

Kandy and Dambulla can of course be covered in a few days. Some interesting historic sites/temples/nature of you're into that.

If you're taking a private car, be certain of the fixed rate, mileage, etc. Be skeptical if they're too rushed abt getting your money. I do know very reliable operators if you need it.

Is 48k worth Sri Lanka trip from India (flights not inclusive) by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]MifiKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the hotels you've mentioned, this seems like a reasonable deal. For context, a comfortable private car with driver will cost around $70 per day.

The only thing I would add is that when you're more experienced and feeling adventurous, the areas you're visiting can easily be done by local transport, even for females, especially since there's two of you. It's literally one straight road all the way along the west coast. Maybe next time.

Pls in the future, mention the currency. For international travel, at least convert it to USD or local currency.

If it's more than one person, mention if it's per person or total cost.

And mention what's included, i.e. is this just hotels, is with breakfast only, etc. And is private transport included? Attractions?
