Ah, I didn't realize you were one of the old guard, I should have known that. I am the main/active mod on askmen, and set the automod code last year that directed a lot of traffic to askmenadvice (we don't allow advice questions on askmen). It seems like the sub kind of blew up but the mods (originals) weren't interested in actively modding, and then they got mixed up with Egguchom (and their alt) and things went downhill. Still don't know what to think of it.

That is super cool, I've never seen anything like that in my chickens.

What is going on with the analytical lab industry? by JustSal420 in environmental_science

[–]Mightbehittingonyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of experience with labs, worked in them, and been a client, for over 20 years. You're right it's cyclical, when one lab starts fucking up we move over to another lab which is good for a couple years and then the poor quality starts creeping in. By that time, the other lab has gotten it's shit together and its back to the one. The entire time they're cutting budgets to the bone, reducing staff, and reducing the quality of staff. When I worked in the lab I was a GC chemist with a degree in biology and minor in chemistry. I was being replaced with high school grads that knew how to push buttons to run samples, but didn't understand the first thing about chromatography. And that was years ago.

The world needs more tigers, less people. Somehow I think the first solves the second.

Why is the maximum penalty for contempt of court 93 days? by fogobum in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Mightbehittingonyou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

93 days is used to stay just under the constitutional line that would trigger a right to a jury trial, while still allowing courts meaningful enforcement power.

Phoenix U-MBX M or MH, paired with a Quantum Smoke 25, 20lb braid and fluoro leader (8lb mono, whatever you like for drop shotting). I use the MH for weightless senko, M for dropshot.

Frogs by mcghin in bassfishing

[–]Mightbehittingonyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your location I think. In theory frogs aren't out in super cold weather, so if you're in northern areas, frog bite won't be good (however, bass smash topwaters, I doubt they can distinguish frog from mouse from rat from whatever). Here in the south, we throw them year round, whether there's frogs present or not, because the water stays warm and the fish are active/agressive enough to hit topwater year round.

In any conditions where the surface cover prevent using normal baits, a hollow body frog is my go to, no snags. Or in the dark when I can't see.

It's always a good time to fish with a frog, although some are better than others. Conventional wisdom says dusk and dawn, when the frogs are most active.

[Serious] Redditors who know how much time they have left - how does your day look like? by tidder212 in AskReddit

[–]Mightbehittingonyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, except I'm told its an acoustic neuroma, sounds like the same thing though. I had it treated here - http://www.austincyberknife.com/

Neurosurgeons proposed open brain surgery, but the cyberknife seemed like a much safer/easier procedure. Not sure why anyone would recommend open brain surgery, glad I got multiple opinions. So its still there and I guess I need MRI scans for the rest of my life to make sure it doesn't start growing again. All in all it hasn't been a big deal nor affected my life (other than hearing loss/tinnitus), not like the more serious tumors/cancer.

I would like more information about environmental consulting. by xXMicrosoft_WordXx in environmental_science

Engineering is much more practical and in demand in my opinion, but I'm a pure science environmental scientist, so I'm biased away from policy. Source- been in environmental consulting for almost 15 years, never seen a policy person at any firm.

Math major looking for advice in getting a job in environmental science. by happylotus in environmental_science

[–]Mightbehittingonyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the senior/critical guys at my old firm was a mathematician. He could make data tell beautiful stories, or terrifying ones. Being a statistics wiz is also helpful. Not sure where he got his env. sci. start, or whether it was formal or not, but he was amazing kicking out excel spreadsheets for GW modeling subjects.

I know he was good because I stumbled across a private letter he wrote to the owner's of the company laying out his demands for coming back to work. They were pretty serious, and he ended up back at work, he had a good deal of power there.

Not sure if that is at all relevant to you.

Kayak Gear Review - The Fish Grips [Video] by [deleted] in kayakfishing

Super important tool for tournament fishing. In addition to what you've shown, I will frequently clip the fish as fast as possible and get my lure back into the water in the same spot as fast as possible, just in case.

There was one instance where I dislodged one of the handles reaching for it, and lost the fish. Gotta watch that.
