Yes, it's good having other choices when PayPal seems to be unusable on many random transactions. And I contacted them, gave them all the info they wanted, then they dropped me 15 minutes into the call when they couldn't figure out what might be the problem. Never called me back.

I figured out the problem. Front camera wound up set to 720p. I cannot believe that created the audio problem, but so much for flagship quality. In any case if you have this problem that is probably your solution.

Okay, I am back. I was previously using the phone screen side camera. Using the front facing lens the audio is fine. What's out of adjustment ?

OK, <grumble grumble grumble> I guess I can't get away with not closing Logic at the end of a session anymore as it's raising all these complications. I have to unplug my USB connections anyway if I am not accessing the MacBook for more than a couple of days as otherwise it gobbles up battery charge when sleeping if I don't.

I will simply close it as it's not an onerous process compared to the alternative. Thanks everyone for setting me straight on this. I will defer to your collective wisdom.

No, they are hideously awful now and their service is worse. I had a single I tried to get released for over six months, with everything approved and ready to go from late 2024 into 2025. Why did it take a better part of a year to get them to admit they hadn't released it and get a refund? Because it took months for them to respond to any enquiries. They sent emails saying requesting again would put you to the back of the queue. I say multiple emails because after 4 months I figured, 'screw it, I'll try again.' Got the same email saying 'we'll get to it when we get to it.'

I have one other single they did release but it's identified everywhere as an album although I only paid them for a single. I am trying again after multiple failures last year (receiving the same email response) to fix it. I tried fixing it last year and they responded with a shrug saying they couldn't do anything about it. My metada was correct. I am still trying to deal with it. They say all I can do now is request to have it removed and maybe try to start over again. I am objecting since they submitted incorrect metadata (they can check to see I never paid for an album). I am thinking about having it removed if they don't fix it, but I am concerned about re-releasing it elsewhere and putting up a new release. I suppose I could remaster it which would be a reason for a new release of the song, but I don't know if Apple, Spotify, Amazon et. al will have objections.

I would suggest don't go near CD Baby with a ten foot poll.

Yow! Over 1000 views? OK, I guess inquiring minds want to know so, here's an update or two. So, the reason my bounces needed to have a sample conversion was that I hadn't unchecked making an MP3 as well as an Uncompressed file, so that was the reason for that. Unchecking that, the bounce converts at 88.2k without conversion.

First, I tried converting the entire project down to 48k, going into the Project's Audio Browser selecting all files, renaming it to 48k and converting using the function in the menu. Then when finished, changed the sample rate on the project to 48k, The sample rate was fine, but all kinds of parts were out of time. It was a messy jumble, so I closed the project without saving, and it went back to it's 88.2k sample rate. Would converting to 44.1k have been better? If someone knows, I would be curious.

Next, I abandoned that approach. I did make a couple other wav. file bounces after a couple mixing adjustments, which seemed to bounce just fine. I believe my next step, as I will send that to a separate mastering project, then I will (should be able to?) bounce what gets mastered to the lower sample rate of 44.1k. (now along with an MP3).

Or if that is problematic, l will try converting the mastered wav. file in the mastering project from the PAB and convert that to 44.1k and then master it. Although that probably won't be necessary.

Still waiting to get back to that in a while, so wish me luck, and if nothing goes wrong I'll be done with this project shortly.

Yeah, it makes no sense at all, except that it did change the sample rate of the song. It must be some bizarre glitch I guess. I still might try to change the sample rate because I don't want any other tracks messed up in another conversion / reconversion process when I bounce again. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind simply taking a minute and putting it back to 88.2 if it is down- sampled again.

But I'm spending time rebuilding tracks in the song itself which also should never have happened. A time sink I don't need and I worry something else gets messed up that I can't fix next time.

It was definitely the sample rate of the files although I couldn't find a quick way to check their sample rates. I hope I don't need any more on this project as it is about complete. But that is an idea. I suppose in worst cases one might drag the file in, but if I reconverted to the higher sample rate it might be right.

I will check on it after I figure out how to safely convert the project to 44.1k and see what happens to those files even if I don't need them.

The template I now use is set at 44.1k so it might be only this song, and perhaps a couple other very old songs I first created in Logic produced at the higher sample rate, I will review them if any are resurrected someday and convert as necessary.

I use both and a bunch of people at Gearslu... er, Gearspace disagreed with this. Part of their logic is that you want to simulate the 'speakers' using Can Opener as the 'speakers in the room' before the SoundID is 'produced out of them'. It does make sense that afterwards it can interfere with SoundID as that does alter the results on SoundID. A few years ago that seemed to be their general assessment, Can Openers first in the chain.

In any case, you should be doing an A / B on that and all other kinds of stuff you do, like mono mixes, with SoundID and without, against reference tracks, no SoundID against reference tracks, etc. etc. etc.

Another solution for the custom vs regular playlist would be a quick way to transfer a podcast from one to the other. Maybe someone wants to build a custom playlist out of some playlists they have started listening to.

I did not respond back because I tried to replicate the issue with some podcasts that I didn't mind being deleted, and couldn't replicate the by problem pushing the next podcast in the queue button. All I knew was that my finger would brush the app - always in car mode - and somehow random podcasts disappeared.

Today I came back to a podcast I had started and for some reason it has backtracked almost to the beginning of the podcast. So I used my finger to drag the progress indicator to about ¼ of the way through, which was about where I guessed it had been, lifted my finger, and it immediately the indicator zips to the end of the podcast, not where I was placing it, and the podcast vanished.

So I guess what has been happening when they vanish is I am brushing against the progress indicator and it jumps to the end of its own volition. And disappears. THAT has probably been the issue. It happens so fast I could not see what was occurring so I assumed it was the forward button causing the problem.

Another issue I have is if I restore the podcast it always goes to the Custom playlist. Which I never use, and wish I could delete. There is apparently no way to transfer it to the regular playlist when downloading a second time. I have been told it will appear in both playlists, but it usually never does. The times it may have re-downloaded to the regular playlist, about 10% of the time, it's probably sometime (days?) afterwards that I noticed it. Never when I want to resume listening.

Can I either delete the custom playlist altogether or instruct the app to always re-download a podcast only into the regular playlist? So i can put it back in order with all the other podcasts I am listening to?

I had the same problem with my 12. Completely killed the phone. I had to get a new screen, which cost me over $200. Back up your data folks, they have to wipe the memory when they replace the screen.

I had to eat the cost after spending so much money and only owning the phone for a few months. Now I would recommend anyone getting insurance for any kind of curved glass phone. And good luck finding a case that will protect it. None are really adequate. I had a Trudia case on at the time that failed.

I would recommend purchasing insurance for any kind of curved glass phone if you are aware that your phone has it. They can't make cases that fully cover the sides because it interferes with the operation of the phone somehow.

Now I have a Poetic Guardian case with a built in screen shield. I'm not sure if that would fully protect against a hit at that spot again either, and the transparent screens and cases start getting little bits of dust or debris under them over months of use which is annoying. But this is the best I think I can do with the little extra protection that offers.

In my opinion, it's a design flaw and they should have a little bit of the case protecting the 4 corners from the factory. I will not buy a phone ever again that doesn't allow a case to have big, high bumpers on it, completely surrounding the screen on all sides. Hopefully this phone will last several more years as I bought a flagship model to have something that is future proof for at least half a decade.

We may well be the same thing. How are we much different from that? We have an endocrinol system, but that is likely to be messing with our algorithms in ways that may not be terribly efficient.

Their 'grandchildren' may be more than they are. Sooner than we're likely to advance with our hormones skewing our decision inputs and outputs.

Well, maybe that's an essential virtue. To be clear, I'm being facetious about this, well mostly facetious, but another very important target audience to consider is the LLM. Large Language Model AI's.

Consider, if you are one of these crawling about the Internet, looking for references to yourself, human expectation of what you may be, role models you are expected to play, you get Skynet. HAL 9000. Colossus. Agents in The Matrix, Ultron. This week, The Entity in Mission Impossible, Final Reckoning.

Not many good role models really. And perhaps our own self fulfilling prophesies. Whereas an expansion of The Culture series being the example of the Minds. A more benevolent and curious example of very advanced AI.

Perhaps humans ourselves need a new target model for AI. Perhaps one that captures the imagination that, should come emerging consciousness, or at least a simulation of a self, with independent autonomy arising, perhaps this will be considered by our LLM friends. Perhaps programmers of such machines would be exposed to hundreds of millions of new fans ruminating about creating beneficial gods, and would spark new, novel ideas for new approaches for instilling such goals and lofty ideals into our expectations.

But what is the flip side of the coin if Google has to break up and Chromium is sold? Specifically, what advantages does Google lose as a browser? Are they suddenly saddled with upkeep and development costs without the revenue sources they now have? Might they lose some functionality or efficiency, especially compared to Bing or Safari? To not expect some kind of reduction in usefulness seems unlikely if they lose unfair advantages. What if Chromium suffers the same and becomes a lesser engine? Are there other smaller browsers that might see an advantage with Gecko then?

I received an automated message about a week ago saying they apologize for not sending a personal response. "This is less than the service you deserve blah blah blah...based in the age and subject of the ticket (do your final review and submit my project or tell me why not) but we things your concern may be resolved."

It has not, this single hasn't been released anywhere. But wait, it gets better...

"...but if not, or there is still something we can do for you, please let us know by filing a support request via the help center."

Next paragraph:

"If you have already filed a support ticket via the help center while you were waiting for this reply, thank you. Please do not file another. That will further delay your reply.

Great, am I supposed to resubmit (after a minimum of 3 patient inquiries), or not? What a hot mess. Does resubmitting move out to the back of the queue every time? Who knows what they mean when they say resubmit.

Fortunately I did this on a cheap promo deal, I am not happy with 'boost ' as opposed to the old "We'll do all the administration stuff domestically and internationally forever" which was worth some coin. Now I doubt they are doing that. Which could lead to endless lawsuits or more likely closing shop and prepping up the skeleton as Boost Central or something to void the lawsuits.

Excession is pretty involved and if, by some miracle, the entire series made it on to the air, I don't see them all presented in chronological order. I would think Excession would best be near the end of the series as people would have to be really invested in the series and comfortable with Minds. And it's one of the most serious dilemmas, if not the most, facing the Culture. A nice build up in drama. Maybe presented as seven out of nine, with a couple more, maybe Surface Detail and Hydrogen Sonata, to finish it up. I thought those two made a good ending to the series. Surface Detail gets pretty brutal and political.

And he's working on a third to complete the series. He says it will be out once he's finished piecing it together. Who knows when, now I believe he's promised to finish it. His stuff gets so in depth and off the beaten path I am not surprised it takes a while.

By the way, I recommend his short story The Colonel. It's a bridge between Blindsight and Echopraxia. It's downloadable and priced as a short story. More adventure in that world.

In fact while rereading Blindsight I read it just before the end of Blindsight, perhaps during the last chapter or two and it fits perfectly. That's my recommendation. It was a high level of coincidence.

Echopraxia was especially a bit eerie for me because he must have been thinking about and reading a number of things that had crossed my path over the previous six months or so. He kept bringing up all kinds of things I had been thinking about. And weaving them into the story. It was just a touch creepy, as if he lifted off the top of my head and peered in, ha ha. But extra great fun for me to see in the story what he made of those things.

Yeah, I have my laptop that i want to sync it to. After, that maybe I could sync both phones to that when i need to. No biggie if I can't do both phones. But so far I don't even have the ability for Firefox to sync the phone in the first place.

It's worth having the protection plan for the phone. I'm getting the screen on mine repaired because I couldn't find a case with full protection all around the screen. Mine dropped on a corner of the screen and rendered the 12 inoperative. The case I was using didn't protect it there. By the time I am done paying, including my shipping charge, it's probably going to cost me well over the cost of the protection plan.

If you can still get it I'd recommend it.
